I am not sure which softward I need to import videos from my camcorder to PC. I have moviemedia and nero but they don't seem to work. I have downloaded the canon digital video solution disk but this only seems to work with images and not movies.

Windows XP? Are you using windows movie maker (WMM) to import them? I begin by copying the ".mod" files to my computer off the flash card which I insert into my printer. THe software Canon provides is useless. Next I change the file extension to ".MPG". Next open WMM, import video file, but when it starts doing so choose cancel. I don't know why that is. If you let it continue the import it seems to lock up. It will then let you drag and drop that video clip onto a movie.
what cable are you using to connect your camcorder to the pc? and did you try to look at the manual for that situation. see also the settings from your camcorder before you connect it and look for the memory storage use or tape usage so that the appearance on the computer will be tape and not the memory card. can you pls give me some specific problems and details so that its not hard for us to solve your problem.
1.Cables like usb or firewire
2. installer cd camed from your camcorder
3. uploading software such as ulead movie director or movie maker, Windows moviemaker, Nero movie maker etc.. or whatever software you have.

the following steps are needed to transfer your videos to your computer.
tell me what you have.
Use USB cable to connect your device to your computer and you should have a software installed in your computer to be able to capture videos from the tape inside on your camcorder. This software will edit and save what you have been recorded and captured. If any question just ask me. thank you for using fixya, hope that helps you!
U can use Nero, where you create your own dvd, click on import disc. There will be a item, select it and click import disc. The file will be stored at the default nero folder witch usualy is under "My Document's" an then under "Nero" then "Imported" then a folder wih the date of import will provide you with the videos. This is how i did it until it started to eritate me, because your dvd should not be scrached in any way, the program will terminate if it cant import that piece of video.
I hope this could help you...
you need to use another program for import of videos as the movie maker in windows is funny with these download pinnacle studio 10 or other file that will allow xvid import if camcorder came with software then use this to convert from to mpeg format then you can import to windows movie maker.
hope this has helped
