Question about Sony Xplod XM-1652Z Car Audio Amplifier

Kicker l7 dvc 2 ohm wired to sony xplod xm1652z amplifier isnt pushing the sub

I wired the sub so it gets a load of 4 ohms so i could get the most wattage out of the amplifier but it still doesnt sound good, should i rewire the subwoofer so the impedance is different?

It is not the way how get most wattage from your amp. If it is rated to drive a 4-ohm load then it should be ok for a 4-ohm load. If it is rated for a 2-ohm load, then you should not be loading less than that impedance. I recommend a 4-ohm load.
Take note: it is the sound quality from the source that makes up all the total quality of your audio system. If you are overdriving the amps it will give distortion too.
There are many factors to consider when it comes to quality of a car sound system- speaker enclosure design, choice of speaker or driver, equalization, etc...
One more thing, try to get at least no voltage drops if you are wiring the subwoofer amp away from the car's battery.

2 12" dvc subs 2 ohm stable amp


+ on amp output to + on speaker #1 to + on speaker #2. - on amp output to - on speaker #1 to - on speaker #2. This is a parallel circuit....4 ohms in parallel with 4 ohms = 2 ohms. IF it were wired in series....would represent 8 ohm load.

Hello moore_broder,

Your MTX 7801 is stable at 1 ohm, but you cannot wire a pair of DVC 2 ohm subs to that impedance. They can only be wired to 1/2 ohm which is too low or to 2 ohms.

Series the voice coils and parallel the subs. On each sub, jumper Black to Red/White Dot, then run both red's (positive) and both black/white dot's (negative) to your amp terminals.

You have a 2 ohm stable amp, and dual voice coil subs.. The L7's come in both Dual 4 ohm, and Dual 2 ohm, so you have to know what impedance your coils are prior to wiring. HERE is a nifty little guide that will show you how to wire your subs. DO NOT WIRE THE SUBS LOWER THAN 2 OHMS ON YOUR AMPLIFIER!

Hello goldy6569,

To wire the L72's at 1ohm, simply connect both +'s and -"s on each sub together. Then connect to your amp terminals.

With 2ohm DVC's, you can have either a 1ohm load or a 4ohm load. The diagrams are here (I know it's the website of a Kicker competitor, but their "wiring wizard" is simply the best).

Does two 1ohm woofer = 2 ohm


if you buy the 4 ohm subs you can drop each of them to 2 ohm and then down to 1 ohm between the two of them. going with the 2 ohm no matter how you wire them you will either get 2 ohms 4 ohms or 8 ohms. hope this helps by the way the 4 ohm solobaric and the 2 ohm are both the same price.

Well, you did not specify whether you have the 2 ohm or the 4 ohm versions of the L7 and that will impact your choice of amps. But with 8 voice coils and 4 subs to work with, you certainly have lots or potential configurations.

If your subs are the 4-ohm version, I would recommend the Alpine MRP-M1000. Currently it is on sale at www.crutchfield.com for $347.00. With this amp you'd wire the voice coils in parallel (2 ohms), wire each of the 2 pair of subs in series (4 ohms), and the resulting pairs parallel to the amp for a final load of 2 ohms.

If your subs are the 2-ohm version, I would recommend the Rockford-Fosgate Punch P1000-1bd which is stable at 1 ohm. Crutchfield sells it for $349.99. With the Punch and 2-ohm voice coils, you'd series the voice coils (4 ohms), parallel each pair of subs (2 ohms), and then parallel the resulting pairs to the amp for a final load of 1 ohm.

Either of these amps will provide an honest 250 watts RMS to each L7. They'll not only rock your vehicle, they'll rock the pavement.

What is the difference in a dual 2 ohm sub and a dual 4 ohm sub?


Dual 2 ohm sub can be wired to achieve a 1 or 4 ohm load.
Dual 4 ohm sub can be wired to achieve a 2 or 8 ohm load.

Usually no difference in Theile Small Parameters.... Only wiring configuration - to get the most power out of your amplifier.

huge shared common space slot loaded box (size depends on sub 10", 12" 15" you need to clarify that please) the amp specs on earthquakes site say the phd5000 is rated at a max output of 5k watts at 1 ohm 3k watts at 2 ohm so, with 3 dvc 2 ohm subs you only have 3 options of which only 2 will be a usable solution:

1. 3- 2ohm dvc series at sub parralel at amp = about 1.33 ohms at the amplifier this is the best option to get the most power to the subs as each sub will produce a 4 ohm load then wire each one to the amp the amp sees 3 4 ohm parralel loads which = 1.33 ohm so based on the amp specs you would be close to 1200 watts per sub.

2. 3- 2ohm dvc wired in series at sub and all 3 subs series wired together very difficult to wireand will give you a 12 ohm load which is next to no power at all (not a viable solution)

3. 2- 2ohm dvc parralel wired to each other and then at amp the amp sees a 1 ohm load and makes 5k watts max but you can only (REREAD THAT LINE! ONLY USE 2 SUBS IN THIS WAY) WHICH GIVES THE MOST POWER BUT ONLY USES 2 SUBS

If the speaker is a 4 ohm DVC (two 4 ohm coils), you can't wire it to get a single 4 ohm load. Try connecting one coil to each of the two rear channels. It may not be as loud but the amp should operate without going into protection.

If the two 4 ohm coils are in parallel, the amp is driving a 2 ohm mono load. That's probably why it's shutting down.

Pioneer prsx720 wiring question


If the subs are dual 4 ohm voice coils, you could hook the DVC's of each sub in parallel ("+"'s together, "-"'s together) making each sub essentially 2 ohms. Then connect one sub to each channel of the amps. This will put about 200W on each sub.
