Sears Kenmore Elite model 44103 no longer cools/freezes.
Front panel LEDs blink and buttons are non-responsive.
I replaced the Control Electronics board in the plastic
box on the bottom, but no change.

Fan still works, but the compressor is not
running. Fridge is only 4 years old. I
just got the front panel off, but I can't
remove the black plastic insert - it feels
like it's glued to the refrigerator. How
do I remove this to get behind it???

Hi To gain access to the lower section of the refrigerator, remove a service panel held by retaining screws at the back of the unit below the condenser coils. The unit may also have a front access panel below the door. This panel may be held by retaining screws, or it may slip up and off two side brackets. On some models, you can tip the refrigerator over and test and service parts from the bottom. In this case, the refrigerator must be defrosted, unplugged, and emptied before any servicing can be done.

    hi or try this
On the refrigerator door jamb, locate a small push-button switch. This component operates the light inside the refrigerator. If the switch is malfunctioning, the light in the unit may stay on, and the heat from the lightbulb can cause cooling trouble in the box.

Step 1: Check the bulb to see if it is burned out. If not, depress the push button on the door switch.

Step 2: If the light stays on, clean the switch with a cloth. Then remove the switch from the jamb. Remove retaining screws hidden by a plastic trim piece, pry the switch out of the jamb with a screwdriver, or pry off the jamb trim to expose the switch. Then test the switch with a VOM set to the RX1 scale (instructions for using the VOM are given on page 19).

Step 3: Clip one probe of the VOM to each terminal of the switch and press the push button. The meter should read zero. If the needle on the scale moves above zero, replace the switch with a new one of the same type.

Step 4: Connect the new switch the same way the old one was connected.

you must first make sure you have checked all the sensors

because it is digital it also has safety sensors that prevent any further dammage from happening when a device inside has failed

Hi huffdave,

you just replace the power board underneath the unit near the compressor. but there is still another board which is the key board where you press the buttons which is not responsive now. i am not suggesting yet to replace the board . simply pull the cables off the board and sometimes that would do the trick.

if it is still the same, let me know so that i could help you further. pls use the "ask me " button to direct a question to me.

tnx 4 using fixya,

These are the certain steps :

Step1 If the fridge won't run, first check the power cord, and the reset the circuit breaker.
Step2Check for thermostat problems. It could be off or won't cool properly (too warm, too cold). If it can't be fixed with a simple adjustment, call a professional. Step3Check for coil problems. The compressor can overheat due to dust buildup on condenser coils. If so, vacuum the coils. If there's ice buildup on evaporator coils due to bad defrost heater, call a professional. If there's a squealing sound inside the refrigerator, it's like a failing evaporator-coil fan. If so, call a professional. Step4If there's frost buildup in the freezer, this is due to a bad defrost heater, in which case you should call a professional. Step5Realign the water tube if it's out of position. It could cause problems with the ice maker. Step6Replace any worn-out gaskets.
Go to this link, it answers different problem and how to fix them.

Since you have already replaced the Control electronics board, you need to check the compressor for which you may require a technician to come over to your place.

Thanks

Sie I would recommend you to consult a repairman. The black thing is glued and dont try to forcefully remove or else it may damage the internal parts.

    Tips & Warnings
Don't attempt to make repairs to the compressor, evaporator coils or condenser coils. They are sealed and best left to a professional repair person.

Unplug the freezer before accessing any of the internal parts.

    Thanks

I cant find the serial number anywhere. I need it for my warranty. Where is it?

In the olden daze.. where I come from... they'd hide them on an obscure panel next to the floor... New Kenmore Elite has it right inside at eye level... (are these guys getting smart or what?).

I seldom EVER deliberately send ANYONE to SEARs based on person ISSUES and outrageous (PAST) parts prices (same parts as everyone else, $$$$) just to EXPAND my personal consciousness...
I took a FIXYA issue to an CHATTER on the SEARs site...!

The response was not UN-IMPRESSIVE... and the CHATTER... dislay'd lots of patience & courtesy...

Sears also maintains an impressive data-base on NON-Sears appliances...

Give them a whirl...
(all parts vendors will help...it is their bread & butter).

Fresh side not cooling

I will assume until you can confirm the model number is near Sears KENMORE ELITE, Model No. 10650594000 But I will need you to double check because Sears always uses a number different than the MFG.
For the moment I need you to remove some things from the freezer and remove the back panel covering the evaporator coils. Look for the coils to be frozen over. If so it could be the adaptive defrost control found inside the fresh food compartment part number 4388932
Or a problem with defrost thermostat or the defrost element. I am here to help, Just let me know, Sea Breeze

Freezer stopped freezing

It is possible that the fanmotor in the freezer compartment is faulty which would cause a freeze up and prevent the air from circulating.

Control Panel going crazy

the motherboard likely needs to be replaced. this is a major issue with maytag side-by-sides and its likely that maytag makes that model for kenmore. Cross your fingers, call sears repair, and hopefully they can have it working again within the next month.
