Closed caption Problem

Closed caption began appearing on my screen without having pushed the CC button and it won't turn off despite the fact that it says "off". I can't figure this out and the manual doesn't address this kind of problem.

Thanks for your quick reply. I am using a cable receiver, namely Comcast. I should clarify that the appearance of the closed caption was spontaneous. In other words, we had not pushed the CC button as it is concealed behind a panel on the remote, I suppose to prevent one from accidentally hitting it.

There is no CC button on the cable receiver and no CC button on the receiver remote. There is nothing in the on screen menu for the receiver for CC either. I have re set the internal TV settings and still the CC is running on the screen.

I made sure to follow your instructions and still no change.

Are you watching TV through a cable/satellite receiver? If so, what type of cable/wire are you using between the receiver and the TV? If you don't know the name, describe the colors and how many strands there are. Check the remote that came with the receiver if the answer is yes and see what the CC button does there. If that doesn't work, check the onscreen menu of the receiver and see if there are settings related in there for closed captioning. If you were to watch a DVD, are you also seeing the closed captioning? If yes, I would think the setting in the TV is locked to closed captioning. Maybe the TV's internal settings need to be reset. Also, if your TV remote is universal, it would have buttons for TV, DVD, AUX, for example, make sure you select TV before hitting the CC button.

If the closed caption setting is set to off on the tv then it would definitely be coming out of your cable box. Usually the Cable box will have the setting in the menu's if not i would definily call your cable company and have them switch your settings for you

Cant turn off closed caption

With our VIP receiver models, you have an option to turn on/off closed caption through the receiver. Press the Menu button on the remote, which will display the Main Menu on the TV screen. Press 8 (Preferences) and then press 6 (Closed Caption). On the Closed Caption screen, press 1. On the Closed Caption On/Off screen, select CC Off and then press Done from the TV screen (using your DISH remote). This will turn the feature off on the receiver. Test to see if it is turned off by watching a program that has CC. If it still appears, then the feature is activated through your TV. Please refer to your TV manual to turn the feature off. I hope this helps.

I need to activate CC for my Dad, Please help I have to go to work. I have a flat screen SOYO

Determine if closed captioning is available on the program that you've selected. In your program guide, the letters "CC" should appear at the end of the description.
Locate the closed captioning option on your remote. Some remotes have a "CC" button that you simply need to push to activate closed captioning
Locate the closed captioning option in your television's menu if there is no "CC" button on your remote. To do this, push the "menu" button on the remote control. The closed captioning option will probably be in the same section as the language function.
Set the closed captioning option to "on." Within several seconds, you should see the text appear on your screen.
To use closed captioning for DVDs, look for the "CC" label on the lower back section of the DVD case where it lists audio information. Turn on your TV's closed captioning and you should see the captioning like you do on a television program. Alternately, some DVDs include English subtitles that you can turn on in the setup/language menu of the DVD.
Thank you.

Cannot turn off Closed Caption

Here's the copy on CC from my manual LC-32SB23U.

1. Press CC.
This will present the Closed Caption information display.
2. Press CC while the Closed Caption information is
still on the screen.
Press repeatedly until you select the desired closed
caption service.

INFO BOX ON THE SCREEN,
Air ANALOG
Audio : MONO
CC : 1/2 CC1 ------ Closed Caption information
Ratings : NONE

Example:
If a program has three services (Digital CC(ENG), CC1
and Text1), the closed caption display will toggle in this
sequence:
1/3 ENG -- 2/3 CC1 --- 3/3 Text1 -- Off
The CC button keeps a record of the last service
selected in its memory.
If the last closed caption mode (e.g. 1/3ENG) you
selected is not available for the next program, or on
another channel, the closed caption service that is
available is automatically selected, and this service
appears in parentheses, e.g. “1/3(CC1)”.
Closed Caption services that appear in parentheses will
not be stored in the CC button's memory as your last
selected service. Only services that you have selected
with the CC button are stored.

If this doesn't work, the TV may need a software upgrade.
I can get you a copy of my manual LC-32SB23U for you. But, are you sure there is and "A" in the middle of your model number?

Turning off Closed Captioning

On the 27" TruFlat the closed caption button is hidden within the DVD buttons. You have to press it multiple times to shut off closed caption. It seems to have multiple sources for closed captions. Press the button until no source appears on the screen. ITS CONTROLED AT THE REMOTE CONTROL - NOT ON THE ON-SCREEN TV MENUS. Good Luck

Closed caption

Closed caption wont turn off was solved by Bresnan tech. He told me the only way was to push the power button on my remote & then push the menu button right away & it would bring up a white screen & cc would be on it. I could't get it to work so I pushed the power button on my remote & the menu button on my motorola cable box & up came the screen & closed caption was on it. I disabled it & it took off the closed caption. Hope this helps
