Closed caption began appearing on my screen without having pushed the CC button and it won't turn off despite the fact that it says "off". I can't figure this out and the manual doesn't address this kind of problem.
If the closed caption setting is set to off on the tv then it would definitely be coming out of your cable box. Usually the Cable box will have the setting in the menu's if not i would definily call your cable company and have them switch your settings for you
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

With our VIP receiver models, you have an option to turn on/off closed caption through the receiver. Press the Menu button on the remote, which will display the Main Menu on the TV screen. Press 8 (Preferences) and then press 6 (Closed Caption). On the Closed Caption screen, press 1. On the Closed Caption On/Off screen, select CC Off and then press Done from the TV screen (using your DISH remote). This will turn the feature off on the receiver. Test to see if it is turned off by watching a program that has CC. If it still appears, then the feature is activated through your TV. Please refer to your TV manual to turn the feature off. I hope this helps.
When you turn it off are you going into the setup menu to do this?? if so after it comes back on and you go back to the menu and you see it..as "on" You will need to save your settings before you exit out of the menu
Determine if closed captioning is available on the program that you've selected. In your program guide, the letters "CC" should appear at the end of the description. Locate the closed captioning option on your remote. Some remotes have a "CC" button that you simply need to push to activate closed captioning Locate the closed captioning option in your television's menu if there is no "CC" button on your remote. To do this, push the "menu" button on the remote control. The closed captioning option will probably be in the same section as the language function. Set the closed captioning option to "on." Within several seconds, you should see the text appear on your screen. To use closed captioning for DVDs, look for the "CC" label on the lower back section of the DVD case where it lists audio information. Turn on your TV's closed captioning and you should see the captioning like you do on a television program. Alternately, some DVDs include English subtitles that you can turn on in the setup/language menu of the DVD.

INFO BOX ON THE SCREEN,
Audio : MONO
CC : 1/2 CC1 ------ Closed Caption information

If a program has three services (Digital CC(ENG), CC1
and Text1), the closed caption display will toggle in this
1/3 ENG -- 2/3 CC1 --- 3/3 Text1 -- Off
The CC button keeps a record of the last service
selected in its memory.
If the last closed caption mode (e.g. 1/3ENG) you
selected is not available for the next program, or on
another channel, the closed caption service that is
available is automatically selected, and this service
appears in parentheses, e.g. “1/3(CC1)”.
Closed Caption services that appear in parentheses will
not be stored in the CC button's memory as your last
selected service. Only services that you have selected
with the CC button are stored.
If this doesn't work, the TV may need a software upgrade.
I can get you a copy of my manual LC-32SB23U for you. But, are you sure there is and "A" in the middle of your model number?
On the 27" TruFlat the closed caption button is hidden within the DVD buttons. You have to press it multiple times to shut off closed caption. It seems to have multiple sources for closed captions. Press the button until no source appears on the screen. ITS CONTROLED AT THE REMOTE CONTROL - NOT ON THE ON-SCREEN TV MENUS. Good Luck
Closed caption wont turn off was solved by Bresnan tech. He told me the only way was to push the power button on my remote & then push the menu button right away & it would bring up a white screen & cc would be on it. I could't get it to work so I pushed the power button on my remote & the menu button on my motorola cable box & up came the screen & closed caption was on it. I disabled it & it took off the closed caption. Hope this helps
