Carburator stavers for gas and dies

Posted by on

1 Answer

Learned this from home depot triage repair during hurricane gustaf. the primary jet for the carburetor is through the bolt that holds the carburetor bowl on . when you take the bowl take a .030 diameter wire and push upward through the threaded hole in the carburetor body which will clean the jet, most likely this will cure the problem. Home depot was doing the repair on the parking lot in about 15 minutes per machine.

When i give it lot oof gas want to die

is it carburated? sounds like your flooding the cylinders. its getting way more gas than it can ignite and combust, hence, it dies.

Poulan pro weedeater will not start without starting fluid and wont accelerate after starting Once started the first time it is easy to restart and idles fine, just cant accelerate the motor without it...

Your carburator is clogged.
1st make sure you have FRESH gas.
Empty and clean the fuel tank
Remove and disassemble the carburator and soak it in fresh gas for about 15 minutes to disolve any gunk.

Using a can of small carburator cleaner ( available at Lowes, Home Depot etc.) blow out all the ports.
reassemble and refuel with clean fresh gas
The little carbs clog easily

My 1969 mustaNG WILL SHUT DOWN SOMETIMES WHILE DRIVING. hAVE TO RESTART

Hi,
I love older cars. If they get gas and get fire, something occurs. I really would like more detail on what's happening with the car (symptoms)... but I'll throw a few bones out there.
If the engine is dying while driving, I would have to check out a few things...
Fuel issues, assuming the fuel pump is ok:
1. If it tends to die as you give it gas, it's possible the fuel filter is clogged enough to starve the carburator.
2. Is the carburator flooding out?... should be able to smell gas and it wouldn't want to crank readily.
3. Is there condensation in the carburator from "bad gas"? Get a fuel addative and pour it in your tank. It'll evaporate condensation build-up in the tank and carb as you run the engine.
Electronic issues:
1. If it runs great at all revolutions but suddenly dies, I would look at any loose wiring connections at the coil. Also check the hot wire to the coil and insure it isn't arcing on the engine due to burned off insulation.
2. Make sure your points/condensor are good and points gapped properly.
3. If it backfires out the carburator or exhaust when you give it gas, the timing is off a hair...
I may have missed a point or two, but these are pretty basic trouble spots. I hope we nailed it.
Cool car, by the way!
Hope this helped... Good luck!

18 hp briggs will run for a little while then die. Checked coil and new gas

Hi,
It's possible that you have condensation built up in your carburator. Tiny droplets can deny gas to the cylinders. Since you put in new gas and I assume you are getting spark, drop the bowl on the carburator and check for this culprit. Could be a quick fix.
Hope this helps... Good luck!

Check the fuel inlet, and make sure that the 'feed' is ok.
You might want to change/flush the fuel filter.
Have fun ;)
If problems still persist, you know where to come.
