DVD drive will now be back in your system.
This seems to be a known issue caused after removing a CD/DVD recording program - like Roxio CD Creator - in Windows XP.
See Microsoft Support, which presents exactly the same solution as General Ghou and amitpandey suggest: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314060
Obs: Pay attention to the registry key location (4D36E965), since there may be other very similar ones.
I had this problem, and that fixed it.
I have no upper filters to delete
I have performed the fix above 2 or 3 times. It works at first to fix the problem but then reverts back and stops working after a few days. The only fix that lasts at least a few months is to do a system recovery that sets your computer to factory settings. But then you have to start from scratch installing the programs you want and it takes forever to put back your files the way you want and even then I lost some of my files in the back up process.
I've tried the solution above and it works for a few days and then reverts and stopes working again. The only thing that works for at least a few months is a system recovery that sets your computer back to factory settings. (Warning: back up all your files and programs or you will lose them in this prosses.)
Does anyone know what triggers this problem? I tried installing a minolta printer that may have caused the problem have any of you?

Go to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
And delete "Upperfilters" and "Lowerfilters" and then restart. (Do not delete if it ends in ".bak")
Alternatively, reinstall pxengine from the Vaio Recovery Wizard
