You need to go into the BIOS and load the default settings, (this is neccesary) and detect your primary hard drive.

that's about it, should work after that (unless the bios image was invalid for your device)

hope this helps

How to boot from a usb

The bios has to be usb boot-able you will know that by going into the bios and looking at the boot-able device array and it will show a usb choice. The usb flash drive has to be formatted as a bootable device and thats a pain in the @@@.

I have Acer 1200 Aspire. When I turn it on, it won't proceed past the initial window. It says boot failure.

It almost sounds like your primary boot disk is incorrectly selected in the BIOS. On older machines, the primary disk on the primary cable had to be the boot disk, but nowadays almost any device can be selected as boot disk. Check your BIOS setting and ensure that the hard disk partition that you have Windows installed on is selected as the first boot device. Otherwise, the system may be looking in the wrong place for the OS and giving the boot error.

Motherboard Dater

Hello. To get date and version:

The only BIOS upgrade I find listed for that model (T160 Aspire) on Acer Website for the Aspire T160 Desktop is:

Acer BIOS R02-B1 868.5 KB 2008/12/09.

If you received your computer before that date and you have not added a new BIOS flash to your PC since that time, you can be sure you do not have it. http://gd.panam.acer.com/home/ Search their site by your full Serial Number if possible, and then model number to be most certain.

Other options:
When first turning computer on, at first signs of any text on your screen before it actually boots up you may hit the "Pause - Break" button on the keyboard and try to get the on-screen messages to stop so you can read it and write it down.

This text on the screen should include/tell you what date and version your motherboard BIOS/Firmware model is. You can usually pause that with a few tries, and/or just hit CTRL+ALT+DEL right then (after pause and before Windows or Unix starts) to try again.

If that does not work hit the correct key to enter BIOS Setup (access long before Windows boots) and read all information about your system there in the BIOS screens (usually always has BIOS version date listed in there).

NOTE: Adding a new BIOS flash always calls for caution as if it fails or goes wrong for any reason mid-install you may not get the computer to work again.

Bios update failed *flash*

Did you make copy of your original bios before flashing...if yes then reflash with your original.
If No then trying reflashing again making sure no power cuts, dont touch computer until flashing is complete.
Are you using the correct bios for your MoBo?

Acer Aspire 1690 keeps freezing

try booting up in safe mode (F8 when booting) if it works ok then it is must likely a driver conflict, remove what ever it was you last installed.
you may have a bad ram stick, run memory checking software such as Memcheck, you can download it from the net,
microsoft also has one go to http://oca.microsoft.com/en/windiag.asp
