I don't have window vista installation disk. I only have acer(4925) recovery disk. But I have window xp pro x64 installation disk. I tried installing window xp first(in D:\) Then I used window vista recovery disk to install window vista. After booting it only boot window vista(No option menu). Tried to use easybcd to add window xp boot entry. The Option menu appeared but cannot boot because it cannot find the NTLDR file. Then i tried to install window xp first. Installing window xp first override the bootloader. Then I tried to add window vista from the boot.ini. Also fail(I think because Vista use BCD) Please help me!. Tired of reinstalling window and recovering vista(till now I've done it +-12 times) IT"S CRAZY! took hours to install once.

You have not installed both windows correctly, you may need to install both windows again and select multiboot option.

Computer not booting up

Hi,

This sound like you might have corrupted windows systems files. See if you can restart the PC using the last known configuration. You can do the by pressing the F8 key during the windows startup process.

If you are looking for a new hard drive, then I would highly suggest a Seagate Barracuda for size/speed verses cost.

1 Terrabyte version: http://stores.tomshardware.com/search_getprod.php/masterid=48683394/mode=toms_charts/

750 GB version: http://stores.tomshardware.com/search_getprod.php?masterid=60350382&mode=toms_charts

160 GB Version: http://stores.tomshardware.com/search_getprod.php?masterid=683289&mode=toms_charts

One thing I would suggest is booting up and run a disk (error) check and select the option for scan and attempt recovery of bad sectors. If you need help on running that let me know what operating system you have and I can walk you through it.

WINDOWS XP PRO SERVICE PACK 3

First off, please use proper case. All upper case makes it look like you are shouting. Thanks.

Try removing everything you can possibly remove from the outside other than the monitor. Remove any cards inside not needed to boot (sound, NIC, modem, etc.).

Disconnect mouse and keyboard, too if it will boot without a keyboard. Some systems will halt at the BIOS screen without a keyboard.

When you have a minimum config for booting, boot and see if it stays on. If so, one of the items disconnected is the culprit.

If not, reconnect keyboard (if disconnected) and boot into Safe mode by tapping F8 after BIOS screen. See if it will stay on in safe mode. If it will stay on in safe mode, problem is O/S.

If it won't stay on in safe mode, see how long it will stay on at the BIOS screen. If it will stay on indefinitely, you could have flaky RAM or possibly hard drive. Power off, unplug power cable, remove hard drive and see if you can boot to the Windows CD. If it will boot up to Starting Windows and stay on, probably not RAM although that is not a definitive test. At that point, I'd try another hard drive and see if the O/S will install or try wiping and reloading the original hard drive.

Let me know if you need more help.

Can u help me?

You may insert the Windows XP CD and reinstall Windows XP just to be sure. Follow the instructions on your screen and format the C Drive. Make sure you install all the required drivers to make everything work.

If you are optimistic follow the following instructions:
This will help you attempt to repair your system (and not via the Recovery Console).
Insert the Windows XP CD and follow the instructions on your screen.
Then after a certain point, you will be asked for three options --
1. Install Windows
2. Repair via Recovery Console
3. Some other option I don't recall.

Select the first option.
Then again, follow the instructions on your screen and again the computer will ask you three options.
This time select the second one -- Attempt to repair the computer (Press R).

This should start the automated repair process. This has been observed to work most of the time, but in a few rare cases it doesn't work. So I suggest you try it if you have the patience. ;-)

Good Luck.
