Question about Dyson DC14 All floors Bagless Upright Cyclonic Vacuum

Unintentionally vacuumed up fine silty powder from sanding drywall mud.

Moved into an apartment and the first time I vacuumed with my Dyson DC14 I sucked up this very fine powdery silt like substance which had probably been under the carpet for a long time. It is clogged in the holes of the yellow piece that fits inside the clear canister. Not sure if it has caused any damage to the vacuum- how can I clean yellow piece and rest of inside and make sure I get all of the powdery stuff out of vacuum?

Easiest way I have found to clean this is to use a can of compressed air or an air compressor (like what you blow up car tires with). Take the vacuum outside and blow it out. I did the same thing as you with my Dyson. FYI - this dust will also plug the lifetime filter. Use the compressed air to blow out the filter also. If you just wash the filter before blowing it out, it makes the drywall dust stick to the filter and makes it harder to get out.

Hi carol the yellow cylinder with hundreds of holes is the passage of vacuumed air from container as you are aware and understand if you use h/brush and clean outside of cyl of excess fluff etc then use a suitable probe /darning needle or better as i use a screw driver as used by watch makers ? you can poke out all holes and shake the vac now and again to allow any debri to fall thro coned pipe of cyl it is tediouse but a good job done when you come to vac again also may i suggest you remove the lower cover that covers the rollerbrush and you may will find this area is also gunged up to? so pick out and brush clear hope this helps/inspires you to diy maintain the most important tool in home best wishes

Dyson problems

I have a DC-07 Animal and I have taken it apart many a time and cleaned at least the plastic parts. Its all modular. I would just make sure nothing is clogged.. Remember the Hepa filter is not washable just the sponge filter. So if you took out the filter and left in the Helpa filter I would order a new Hepa filter - its probably clogged by now! Beat of luck!

My Dyson D14 was used by electricians to clean up plaster dust when chasing out wiring! It has not worked properly since. My husband has twice taken it apart and cleaned filters carefully drying all

Hi there, it's Jack at Dyson.

Our machines are designed and tested for standard domestic use only, and we do advise against using them to clean up large quantities of fine powders, such as plaster dust.

It's possible that if the plaster dust has damaged the filter, replacing this will improve performance. However, I'd encourage you to get in touch with us directly before ordering a replacement - our experts will take you through some quick troubleshooting checks just to make sure that a new filter will resolve the issue.

You can reach our freephone customer Helpline on 0800 298 0298 (UK), or 1-866-693-9766 (US). Please have your machine to hand when you call.

Best wishes,

Overheating dyson dc14

Probably has a blockage (like that's a surprise). Seriously if you have pets, these vacuums get 'hair-balls' that clog passages, overheat and will shut themselves off to protect the motor. You pretty much have to disassemble to vacuum and clean it thoroughly. You'll usually find the problem while taking it apart. I take mine apart (not the same model) about once a month. I have dogs ...

To access the DC14 Animal information on Dyson's site, select Uprights, then DC14 Telescope Reach. You can then choose the DC14 Animal from the various DC14 models.

Download the pdf manual here:

The manual lists some accessories, but the current list of compatible accessories is here:

The carpet grooming tool (designed for use with Zorb maintenance powder) can be purchased on its own, or in a couple of kits.

They are not easily repairable. Better to buy a new one. You can get on here: Dyson DC14 spare parts.

I vacuumed up some material and then pulled it out now it has no suction from the vacuum head

yikes! hard to lose suction on a dyson! i have this one and have had this problem a couple of times..

remove the canister - check the line in and the hole that goes into the canister for blockages.

check the filter - you can (and should) remove and clean the small foam filter every 6 months.

if it is still clogged - depending on what you vacuumed up....
In the top part of the canister there is a piece that has holes - if these become clogged it can reduce suction.. clean this part.

If you have by some chance vacuumed up ashes or fine dust from drywall.. etc... or if it was wet... and you have done all of these things.. i would take it to be checked... these are no no's for the workings of a vacuum :) Good Luck!
