Graphics driver On bootup a message comes on telling me my graphics driver is not installed or is corrupt. When I download the driver from Gateway to my desktop and follow their instructions, it tells me part of the file is missing or corrupt. I need to know how to install this file D00458-002-001 and replace the bad one. Gateway does not support my 2 years old laptop! My splash screen has vertical stripes. I paid a technician $300 to fix this problem, but was scammed. I am almost 70 but not dead yet! Help! Product Gateway NX560XL Laptop purchased 8/06

Joed911, thank you for your response. What is a Dimms and what does it look like. There are a couple of covers.

  • William Westfall Oct 17, 2008

Joed911, I looked at the Device Manager listing, and found there under 'other devices' marked by a yellow question mark, and another under that 'Video Controller' (VGA Compatabile).

My question is this, can that file be suspended and a new one downloaded and installed. If so how do I do that. Would having that file out of the way so to speak, enable a new download? Originally Gateway Chat session in August indicated that I needed to download that file, but when I bring it to the desktop it doesn't unzip and when I try to run it that's when I get the corrupt or missing files message. They are through helping me.

I have printed off your memory Dimms message and how to look and will follow up on that. Thank you so much for helping me. I will let you know if this works. The are changing to a yellow. I just want to fix this.

My video card is going out so drivers won't help, but I appreciate all the suggestions on fixes all of your have given me! Thank you so much! I'm going to see if I can get Gateway to cough up a fix for less than what I paid for this laptop less than 2 years ago. It is a Gateway X560XL fully loaded! I am so sad!

A memory Dimm is a circuit board about 2" long, 1/2 wide. It is under one of the covers. there may be an "M" by the cover.

I would look at the memory. This usually causes erratic line and video. It also could be the cause behind the drivers not installing correctly. on the bottom of the laptop, you will see a cover that houses the memory. Open it up and see how many memory Dimms you have .If you have 2, power off the laptop, then take one out and move the second one into it's place.Power up the unit. If you still have the video problem, power off the unit and switch the memory again and test.

You can right click on the Video controller that is yellow exclamated, select uninstall. Then you can re-install the driver. This will put the new driver in and hopefully fix your problem.
tell me which Gateway model and what operating system and I'll send you a link for the driver .

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

I am trying to install a new graphics card in my pc but after reboot message says it cannot find it even though the drivers are listed. Graphics card is ASUS 1gb nvidia geforce gtx 5 60 titanium any i

First of all verify that your PC supports that card. If it supports then use a driver finder tool to download and install exact drivers for this card. Also use a system utility tool like Reginout to fix registry and other windows errors. Sometimes drivers problem occurs due to missing or corrupt registry files.

I added a new video card and the monitor wont come on

1) Did you plug the monitor into the graphics card?

(Hey, happens! Sometimes in our zealousness to see what that baby will do, we mess up a little)

2) Did you install the Drivers? First?

These will be on the installation disk that comes with the graphics card.
Recommend installing the software from the disk FIRST, then turn the computer off, unplug from power, install the graphics card.

3) Does the graphics card require additional power?

Some graphics cards will not receive enough power, from the graphics expansion slot they are inserted into.

[Gateway GM5084 uses a PCI Express x16 slot, for best graphics.

Some powerful graphics cards require additional power cables from the Power Supply.

I receive a message stating that my graphics driver had to recover when I run Windows Vista Aero and watch videos

Hi,

Go to device manager and uninstall it, sounds like corrupted drivers. Click on it and uninstall, if prompted "Delete installed device drivers" put tick in the box and proceed.

Now reboot...new drivers will be re-installed when you login to vista.

Thanks

My 450sx4 mysteriously changed the screen resolution from 800X600 to 640x480 & now won't let me change it back. any suggestions?

It is definitely a drivers problem. Some driver files have gone corrupt and you need to reinstall the Video/Graphics driver on your computer. Most probably the drivers would be in the Disk that you got with your laptop, else you can download the latest drivers from the Gateway website.

NV4 Display Driver has stopped working normally.

Create a folder on your desktop & name it NVIDIA driver. Click on the NVIDIA link provided below;
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

Use Option 2 & download the latest driver software into the NVIDIA driver folder you created.
Do not install new graphics driver software over top of older graphics driver software!
Open control panel than open Add/Remove programs icon. Find the current NVIDIA graphics software & uninstall it. Restart your system if windows request it.
Download & run the free program named RegCure from the next link;
http://www.pctuneuptips.com/recommends/clean/?gclid=CL2RiIrTmpICFSFMGgodODIPzg
This will clean your system. Than install the NVIDIA software. Restart your system even if windows does not want you too.
Lastly, check windows for updates.

Cheers!
