Thanks, however can't get pass the password screen to boot compuiter and perform a bios update. Looks Like I will have take it to a Toshiba dealer and spend more money, I won;t buy a other Toshiba product due to this, you should be able to enter a administrator password from Toshiba even if you still need to prove you own the computer, rather than spend 60.00 or more at toshiba, a gimmic in my opinion.

If you can not get in the touch with the person who owned it previously and set the password, problably the only solution is to do a BIOS update.
Go to:

http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_dtlViewDL.jsp?soid=1004857&moid=713851&rpn=PSA60U&BV_SessionID=@@@@0874164868.1224211563@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccciadefhdhmidjcgfkceghdgngdgmn.0&ct=DL&all_docs=false

and download ACPI BIOS v1.90.

Follow their instructions minutely.
When it asks to replace the current file, say yes.

WARNING: messing with the BIOS requires EXTREME caution.
1 - Make sure power will NOT fail. AC powered all the time
2 - Do NOT interrupt the procedure, else, bye bye laptop

If this procedure does not work, you will have to go to a Toshiba costumer service.

Well, you could also remove the battery, open the thingy and unplug the CMOS/Clock battery. ( I should have thought of this before - I am an idiot).

And don't blame Toshiba. This just proves that at least there will be a load of problems for those who steal a secured laptop. Blame the idiot who sold it to you.

Forgot my password on my toshiba satellite a65

If you are talking about the user account password ..and you forgot it , now you will need to reinstall the operation system ..cause there is no way to retrieve that password..
to do that engage the recovery partition for it ..and choose complete reinstall of operation system ..If you do not have one ..(or disk ) ..use a operation system boot-able one ..Just borrow one ..or buy ..or download an image and burn one ..and reinstall your computer and will work .
let me know if you have any questions or need guidance for that too ..Please explain all facts if you do ..

I need to unlock the password to get into my toshiba satellite a-65. I forgot the password for right after I turn it on and need to reset it.

Is it you computer is locked or your windows is locked.
It kinda easy.
The first: if computer is locked you have to find you cmos battery in your computer and remove it, remove the big battery and remove power.
push the on button, wait 3min and put back all batteries and other power supplies.
when powering up, go into the bios and remove password enable to disable, reboot, happy computing
The second, if windows is locked, as you are booting up into windows use F8 a few times. this will get you into safe mode. Go onto contro panel and then user and change password
reboot,happy computering

Hi ! I was upgrade memory in my toshiba but the notebook not work after put a new memory card . I turn on my pc the LED light. I can hear the hd like you're running more does not appear either on screen...

Take the memory module back out and reboot and see if the laptop boots. You may have gotten either a bad memory module or it is incompatible with your system.

That means that the disk has a bad sector.

Try chosing the option to format the hard drive during the system installation.

If that does not work, then replace the hard drive.

Toshiba Satellite A65-S1762 makes one long beep then two short when turned on

Sounds like video problem.

My wife has one of these and it died.

One file came up corrupt and then after I restored it the system would just drop power without warning.

Then would hang in safemode at an ATI sys file for the video.

It's on the mainboard. These also have built in RAM problems too.

You can try to remove any additional RAM you may have added in the bottom slot and try to boot.

My best advice is get a $20 best buy/staples 2.5" USB HDD enclosure and throw the HDD in there and toss the leftovers on Ebay with an explanation.

You'll get $100-150 for it to help buy yourself a new one.

Sell the LCD as one deal, the keyboard another, AC adapter another and so on. You'll get more that way.

I'd go Fujitsu. Toshiba used to be good but they went to **** to compete with HP/Compaq and sell at Walmart.

Gateway is also decent. The key is newer laptops run too hot and end up toast in a year or two.

Buy something a little less frantic in the GhZ dept. and it will last longer.

Pushing a laptop for gaming or 3D graphics is hardly it's best use. Manufacturers are too busy adding flashy selling points instead of practical features like lighter weight and longer battery life.
