Turn printer off and unplug any network or usb cables. Restart printer, if it comes to ready then you may only need to update the firmware on the printer to solve your problem. Go to HP.com and download the current firmware for the 551 and copy it to a USB stick. In the menus on the printer go to Printer maintenance>upgrade firmware and then insert the usb key into the usb slot on top of printer. Screen will show the file that is on the usb key, press ok and wait for process to finish.
Remove toner from printer and check in side area one gray color roller will be there with blue lock remove roller clean the gray pickup roller and check if its get smooth its need to be replaced place 5-10 paper and check for prints if it’s picked properly
Not sure if this will help but if you right click on the printer and go to properties ( when your in printers and faxes ) and go to the ports tab I think it is and un tick the check box that says bi directional support and try it again.
Also what error are you getting thats printed off ?
what lights are on the printer and where are you getting the driver from, if the disc then try the latest driver from the hp website
My guess is that the wire from the photocell at the rear of the fuser (exit sensor) is not seated properly. The connector on the board side also has a nasty habit of the pins pushing down into the board in the connector. Put check the connections carefully from the exit sensor to the main boad. If it has pushed down, it can be pulled back up without ill effects using a small pair of hemostats..
If only the attention light is flashing then follow the guide below -
The Attention (amber)
light is blinking.
Attention error. The top
cover is open.
Close the top cover.
Attention error. The
printer is out of media.
Attention error. The
printer has a jam.
1. Clear the jam (see pages 164 through 168).
2. If the location of the jam is not apparent, check
the embedded Web server to find the jam
If the jam was under the imaging drum, toggle
the registration sensor to check its movement
and replace the registration sensor if it does not
If the jam was in the fuser area, toggle the fuser
exit sensor to check its movement and replace
the fuser exit sensor if it does not move freely.
