Question about Toshiba Satellite M45-S351 Notebook

1 Answer

Toshiba Satelite shuts off.

Whenever I turn on the notebook it gets to the 'loading windows xp" page then it shuts off and restarts itself. I don't think its a battery problem because I can still use the media player from the laptop.

There was a problem with this happening on certain machines in regards to an old Windows XP service pack 3 release. If you've recently upgraded to service pack 3 there is a rather technical solution to this problem involving booting from your XP cd, using the system recovery command line tool to copy a new .dll file into your Windows system files. If you're not technically inclined, don't bother tryin got do this. Another option is to reinstall Windows, it would be best to format before reinstalling, unless you have files or programs you need on the hard drive that you cannot recover. Simply reinstalling Windows without a format might not harm your file or programs, but no gauruntee there. You can read through this thread here on Microsoft's forums to follow this fix.

If you did not install SP3 or if you have quite awhile ago and there was no problems up untill now, then it is probably related to your computer directly. I have a Satellite M100 which had overeating problems, which will cause the computer to restart constantly. Try cleaning out the vents (if you have a warantee, send in to them and have them fix it). Another option is to buy a laptop cooling pad, they range around $50 or so. You could go to a store like Best Buy or Circuit City or order online at places like Tiger Direct or Newegg.

How much memory do you have in your Toshiba Satelite laptop?
Windows XP with Service Pack 3 needs a minimum of 1GB but ideally would run better with 2GB.

Windows 7 would need the same but there is no auto-update process to go from XP to 7 as this is not allowed - you would have to do a Custom install of Windows 7 which requires a clean install (i.e. format the hard drive and start from scratch).

If you are running XP with less than 1GB memory, then you need to check what the maximum memory that the laptop can be upgraded to?

The easiest method is to use the Crucial Memory web site System Scanner utility which will detect how much memory is installed and advise how much you can upgrade to according to the options available for the specific make & model of laptop.

If the laptop hasn't been turned on or on-line for a long time then you may be using a lot of resources downloading Microsoft critical updates plus updates for other installed programs like iTunes, QuickTime, Java etc.

Try downloading and installing a copy of the free Advanced System Care 5 utility then running the Deep Care tools which include System Optimisation and clean-up utilities to improve system performance.

Hi.....I can't get my Toshiba Satelite M200 to shut down. The blue screen keeps stating shutting down but it goes on for hours. I am using Vista

Windows is so corrupted that it can't shut down properly. The only way to fix that is to save your data and reinstall. And be very careful what program you load after that because it was one of them that has corrupted Vista so load them one at a time with serious testing in between.

Toshiba Satelite M100 PC notebook wont start up windows XP

This sounds like a memory problem. Download and run memtest 86, it is a small iso file that you create a bootable cd from. Run this for at least one pass.

If the memory passes boot from your xp disk and choose R to get into the repair console. Once there type the following commands

fixboot
fixmbr

then try the install again. Hope this helps

My Toshiba Satellite A215 - S4747 won't restart

Try to do fixboot.
Boot your computer from the installation disk,Enter in to the Recovery console by pressing
"R" when prompted>type the administrator password if any or in most of the cases its Blank
so just press Enter>on command prompt type,-"fixboot">restart windows normally once done.
if "fixboot" doesn't work, follow the above steps and try "fixmbr" this time, now should be
working fine..
plz let me know if this solves your problem.
your feedback is appreciated :)
