DIM SCREEN my laptop is coming on but i am not seeing anything on the screen. i can make out a fade out line in the back ground. I was told may be it is the LCD screen and inverter. what do u think? And how can i locate the part to order it? urgent I also have an Acer Extensa 4620-4605 laptop that will not light up.. I have tried 3 different inverters, two different lcd screens and a new cable. I even replaced the motherboard, but my LCD will not light up. I think the inverters I bought were not good or the wrong ones. I have also checked lid switch. Any Ideals or where can a person buy a new 4620-4605 inverter. Certainly not at ACER.com. I can't find anything there. HELP HELP HELP

It can be the inverter, or the backlight, ar also the switch that de-activates backlight when you close the laptop.

    Repeat? that is the solution.

If you have dim light, as someone told you, then that means that you have either a faulty inverter, a faulty backlight, or that the AC charger is not connecting, or that the backlight is disabled in power saving mode. That is all.

Check the power setting mode, bother to read the article here LAPTOP MONITOR SCREEN VERY DIM.. and do the test switching to ext monitor, check if light flickers, do also a test unplugging AC charger (battery must be working).

The inverter is a small rectangular board, usually placed within the display assembly, that powers the backlight.

The first thing to check is the backlight bulb itself (or themselves), if the bulb works it will light up when powered with 12V, following the specs. Bulb can also be tested with a multimeter, checking it for continuity.

If the bulb is good you should test the inverter board, to know if that is faulty, you have to test specific voltages out, if there is no power out, you follow a diagram for the power stabilizer/power amp IC, or circuit, and eventually replace it again, always remember that it is very easy to fry a pcb. Inverters are usually powered at 5V , with a gap of +-.5V as in all circuits. This board is a power amp, andhas a potential power out of over 500V (500V 800V on new Acers)

Test also the inverter pcb connector cable, using a multimeter. If you do not have a multimeter and at solder at home, that usually means you should not even work on electronics, therefore, if you do not have a multimeter buy one :

Basic analog GB ELECTRICAL, INCORPORATED 19-Range Analog Multimeter

    Basic digital Deluxe Digital Multimeter

Good Actron Auto TroubleShooter Digital Multimeter and Engine

Pro Fluke 87 5 True RMS Digital Multimeter (74974)

Well, if you knew it already you should have just fixed it, and I would have saved my time here.

Thanks for the bad rating given.

Black screen battery charged new ac cord turns on fan is on nothing on screen wont go on to hard disk i guess

Your LCD screen is probably bad.. Can you see anything? It may be very very very dim. If it is very dim(use a flashlite to see if anything comes up), if you can see something but is very very dim then it is the backlight to your LCD screen and you need a new screen

Try connecting your PC to an external monitor.. then try getting it to work..

If it works on an external monitor then it is your LCD screen.
If it fails, then it is your video card or motherboard.

Screen fades to white, everything freezes, then returns to normal

My first thought is a video inverter.

Install an external monitor and see if the problem persists.

If it doesn't then it is the LCD on the laptop.

Good luck

No light on screen of acer extensa 4620 4605 PC notebook

On your first laptop, If you see a faded image, it usually is the Inverter board. I have had great success buying from this company, great customer service:
http://www.smartmicrousa.com/acer_inverter_board.aspx

If you don't see it on the website, call them.
You may have to copy and paste the link into your browser.

On the second laptop, It seems you have replaced all components that may be causing the problem.
I would hook up a monitor to test and see if your video out is working. That would narrow it down to the LCD and or the Inverter.
Then I would check the connection on the system board and the connection on the LCD screen where the cable from the system board plugs in. It is strange that you get the same symptoms after changing all those parts. Were the parts you use for replacement new? You may have receive DOA parts.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

No light on screen of acer extensa 4620 4605 PC notebook

This is a problem I have experienced with my HP laptop as well. I found some info on this and was told that it was the inverter. I managed to fix this by finding the inverter and, unplugging both ends of it and plugging it back in. This fixed the problem and a week later its still working!

The inverter is usually located at the bottom of the screen. To access it you need to unscrew the screws around the screen. This will involve removing the plastic covers and simply unscrewing them.

Once you have removed the plastic cover from around the screen, you should see the inverter at the bottom. Re-seat the connectors, and see if this fixes it. If not, replace with inverter. The site below is an example of where you can buy one.

This may help you with the process

Hope this helps, let me know

Try to find the button that tells the screen to come on. This sticks sometimes on laptops. I always tell people not to use canned air because it only blows dust around, but it could help your problem. If you are okay with taking it apart you can find this button and see if it is sticking. This is becoming a common problem with laptops. I recently had a customer with this problem and it took me some time to figure it out. It is usually around the hinge. Look at the manual if you can't find it.

Laptop screen will not come on

What you do is when you switch on your laptop, Try to press F2 to go into BIOS or do anything so that your computer won't boot into windows. My question is incase you're in BIOS setup...can you see anything on screen ??? if no then try to look more seriosly that anything???? if no then last test is to plug external monitor..incase nothing on external monitor also then you've problem with your notebook maybe motherboard or screen problem.
Goodluck,takecare.
