My hp dvd writer300i won't accept the disk formatts that it used to accept why??? i was using Hp brand dvd r 4.7gb disks now they aren't working why????

Could be a capacity issue and driver integration...check with the hp specs..

I`m trying to reformat pc. i get to a screen that ask for disk 1. the whole time the disk is in the drive but it won`t read it. please help


there's two possibilities
either the drive the disk is in is going out
or there's something wrong with the disk

I've got 2 hp pavilion desktop computers & I've had the drive go out & cd or dvd also

When I turn on my HP Pavillion dv6000 it starts up but when it gets to the screen where you type in your password its black with the cursor on it.


marissalynn5, use the Restoration Disk, and choose Non-Destructive Installation when asked. (Repair)

If you do Not have the Restoration Disk (CD);

In the USA the disk is free. The shipping and handling is not.

Tell the representative that you need the Restoration Disk.
The representative may ask for the Product Number, or the Serial Number.

This is on the Bottom of the laptop in the white Service Tag.
P/N = Product Number
S/N = Serial Number

Turn the laptop on, install the disk in the DVD optical drive, close the drive tray. Perform the above.

If using the Restoration Disk does not cure the problem, then I have bad news.

The HP Pavilion dv2000 series, Pavilion dv6000 series, and dv9000 series, have an inherent problem with the graphics chip.

Turn off the RAM disk on the printer.

Follow these steps:

Troubleshooting steps

1.
Verify that the formatter light is blinking or steady. If the formatter is blinking, it is functioning properly and probably does not need to be replaced. If the formatter light is not blinking, proceed to Step 2.
2.
Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord.
3.
Remove the HP Jetdirect card, third-party device, hard disk, parallel cable, or IFR cable from the formatter if one is installed.
4.
If the error continues with accessories removed from the formatter, perform a cold reset on the printer. Ensure the HP Jetdirect card is not in the printer during a cold reset or the card settings will be changed back to default settings. To perform a cold reset, do the following:
1.
Turn on the printer.
2.
Watch the control panel.
3.
When the memory starts counting, press and hold the green (Select ) button.
4.
Continue holding the green check button until the Ready, Data, and Attention lights flash once, and then stay on steady.
5.
Release the check button when the Ready, Data, and Attention light are on steady.
The control panel will display SELECT LANGUAGE .
6.
Press (Down Arrow ) button once. The control panel will display COLD RESET
7.
Press (Select ). The printer will perform a cold reset and then continue its power-on sequence.

If the printer comes up to ready, print a Configuration page. If a 49 error occurs from printing internal pages, continue on to the next step.
6.
Turn the printer off and unplug the power cord.
7.
Remove the eight screws around the formatter.
8.
Remove the formatter. See Figure 1.
9.
Reseat the firmware and memory modules on the formatter. Check for any DIMMs that are non-HP and remove them. Non-HP DIMMs are not supported by HP and may cause this error. Replace with HP DIMMs, if necessary.
10.
Reseat the daughter (interconnect) board. The daughter board is connected to the formatter behind EIO slot #1. To release the daughter board, push in the black retaining tab underneath the formatter then lift up the one side of the daughter board.
11.
Reseat the daughter board.

12.
Install the formatter.
13.
Turn the printer on again.
14.
If it comes up to READY , print a configuration page. If a 49 error does not appear from printing internal pages, or at power up, continue to the next step.

Install the HP Jetdirect card and hard disk before installing the formatter. Verify that each device is properly seated.
16
Test any EIO devices, by turning off the printer, installing each device separately, and printing a Configuration page. Repeat for each EIO device.

If the 49 error occurs with any EIO device installed, replace that EIO device.

I want to restore my pc to its factory settings


Take the original "System Restore" set of CD/DVD disks that were shipped with your computer, and reinstall Windows.

Some brand-name manufacturers (Dell, IBM, HP, COMPAQ) will accept telephone-orders for that set of disks, to match the disks that originally were shipped with the computer.

Telephone HP. Since your HP was shipped with Windows pre-installed, order a set of "System Restore" CD/DVD disks.
Probably $20 for the disks, and $20 for overnight-courier.
Use those disks to reinstall Windows.

No blank cd in drive, please insert blank disk, THERE IS A DISK!


Buy a new CD drive

-When the reading laser goes out on a CD drive, this is the error it gives. The motor to open and close still works, the computer just isn't able to read the CD.

Lightscribe DVD + Writer/ CD-Writer....it seems to not recognize a DVD-RW or DVD-R blank disk.


These drives are very picky about the CD's and DVD's they accept because the chemicals on the different manufacturers DVD and CD's are all different. What you will have to do is experiment with different brands... for example go buy very few Verbatim DVD's if the brand works for you stick with it. Unfortunately they don't tell the customers about this... but every burner I have... there are some brand CD and DVD that won't be accepted by the drive. For a shortcut by the CD or DVD's that the manual recommends that is most certainly to work and lets you cut to the chase more expendiantly without wasting money. Good Luck

HP laptop DVD Problems.


Are the DVDs youre having problems playing movies? If so the decoder may be missing. Confirm for us if the disks youre having trouble with are movies. Data DVDs should play with or without a decoder. Programs such as PowerDVD should solve your problem if this is the case.

A system recovery disk is for recovering a failed hd. try booting up on the recovery disk. If it works U will loose all programs and data loaded since its creation.
