I am having a real problem updating the drivers to this video card. I have
tried updating the Microsoft Drivers which keep coming up on the Windows
Update Site, and the NVIDIA Drivers. Each time I do after the computer
restarts the monitor is blank. I have an LCD (Gateway FPD1819) monitor. I
then start up in safe mode and go to device manager and the monitor doesn't
even show up. I have found no way to load the monitor drivers. When I try
from the Settings tab the monitor tab is present, but the properties button
is grayed out. I have contacted Gateway, but they only seem to want to help
if I download their drivers, which have not been updated in a almost a year.
Does anyone have any idea how I can get this updated and the monitor to
work? Thanks!

and restart your machine. It should redetect everything.
I had a conflict with my AGP slot and an I/O Port in the
PCI bus. Once I rebooted it detected everything fine and
my Geforce card works great.

What might help here is to Start - Run and run msconfig.exe
There in the Boot.ini page check the /BASEVIDEO box
Also be *sure* you have all antivirus, firewall disabled (worth
unchecking 'Startup' on the msconfig front page) and reboot.
That should give you a normal - not limited Safe - mode but with just
basic svga in use. Means you have the monitor on normal settings and
the video drivers out of the way while you update them
After of course return the msconfig settings to normal

choice for adding a monitor. When I select Show All there is still no
choice for a monitor. Thanks for the help though.

that. I did try Show Hidden items and the monitor wasn't listed. Thanks
again. If you come up with anything else, please pass it on.

manufacturer provides .INF files which tells Windows the
parameters/specs of the monitor. After you download and
save it go to Add Hardware, select Monitor and chose the
folder which you placed the .INF file in. Then you should
end up with a Monitor in your Device Manager, and your
Monitor's name should be indicated.
As for installing video cards I uninstall/remove the
existing card in Display adaptor line of Device Manager.
Then after a cold reboot it should find a new video card
and ask you for a driver. You would then insert your
driver file. It looks for the .INF file first. Otherwise
go to safe mode and execute the driver install .EXE file.
Good luck.

you delete all of them and then choose while in the safe mode a generic VGA
driver. Load it and reboot normally. Your PC should boot into windows but
your display will look quite terrible. Once there perform a fresh download
of the drivers and try to load these again. The files you need to search for
and get rid of are these:
ALIAGP.SYS - AGP support file for Aladdin TNT2
NVINSTNT.DLL - NVIDIA installation/uninstallation support file
NVOGLNT.DLL - NVIDIA OpenGL driver
NV4_DISP.DLL - NVIDIA display driver
NV4_DISP.INF - Windows 2000/XP display driver information file for NVIDIA
NV4_MINI.SYS - NVIDIA miniport driver
NVCPL.DLL - NVIDIA display properties extension
NVCPL.HLP - NVIDIA display properties extension help file
NVQTWK.DLL - NVIDIA taskbar applet
NVDESK32.DLL - NVIDIA desktop manager
NVDMCPL.DLL - NVIDIA desktop manager hook library

Try restarting and hitting the F8 key until you get to the startup menu for
Windows. There should be an option for startup using the VGA drivers. Select
this and see if it will let you 'see' the bootup screens and your desktop. If
it helps, once Windows is running, it will give you a message that the monitor
setting aren't correct and ask you if you want Windows to adjust them
accordingly, say yes.
Or
When in safe mode and you go to Device Manager, select View and Show Hidden
items, see if this will list your monitor.

computer restarts the monitor is blank, and when I start in Safe Mode the
monitor does not show up in device manager to be able to install the drivers
for the LCD monitor I have. This is the same problem with Microsoft Drivers
or NVIDIA drivers. ?????

Thanks for the Nvidia update Jason!
I just downloaded /installed it. The controls are more refined, and I noticed (even rebooted 3 times to be sure) that I now have 6-7 megs more of available RAM at startup.
