How do I back up my computer with an iomega portable hard drive?

  • 1 ***** the size of files you need for taking the backup. Files having graphics, sound and videos occupy more space than a simple text file.

2 Plan the future requirements and consider the space needed accordingly.

3 Choose an external drive of 20 GB or above to store huge data backups.

4 Get an external hard drive and connecting cables to attach the drive to your computer.

5 Select the data you want for backup. Organize the data into folders and sub-folders for easy find. Financial data, digital photos and music can form priority data for backup.

6 Connect the drive to your computer. Use the drag and drop options for taking the backup.

7 Remove the drive after properly ejecting by right clicking on the task bar on the desktop.

8 Keep the external drive away from the place where you have your computer when done. If your computer gets damaged due to any unforeseen reason, you will have your entire data safe in the external hard drive. It minimizes the risk of data loss.

Need nec versa e 6000 motherboard faulty . where i can buy the motherboard?

it is not worth it to purchase a new motherboard for around 200$ when you can buy a brand new computer for just a little bit more.

You can have your files moved from the old hard drive to the new laptop by a professional or you can do it yourself if you aren't a complete dummy with computers.

To do it yourself you would need to first remove the old hard drive from the old computer ( NEC ) and then buy a external hard drive case for it that fits to it - there are 2 sizes, 2.5" and 3.5", probably 2.5" hard drive and then there are 2 types of connectors, IDE and SATA. SATA has a flat connector, and IDE has around 40 metal pins sticking out of it.

buy the appropriate USB caseing for it and then connect it to your new computer, you can transfer your files from it to the computer, after you have done so, you can keep the old hard drive as a external hard drive, for backups for example.

    ? while replacing hard drive

1)First of all make a backup of your data on a USB Drive or an External Hard-Drive.
2)Turn off the computer and unplug all the power supply wires.
3)If your HD is SATA, then unplug the cable attached to it.
4)If it is PATA(IDE), firstunplug the IDE cable attached to the motherboard and the HD and then remove the power cable between the HD and the SMPS.

I am having seaget 320GB Harddisk, which is not detected in BIOS, but when checked it disk is moving. I am having critical data in Hard disk which I need to recovery. Please help.

If the BIOS does not detect the hard disk then the hard disk could be faulty.

Retrieving data from damaged hard disk is possible. There are companies that can remove the disk platters from the damaged hard drive and with special equipment may be able to recover your data, but it will cost you an arm and a leg for their services. The reason for this high cost, they dismantle and remove the platters in the hard drive in a clean room environment and set up the platters up in jig/drive to retrieve/copy the data.

First thing I would try is to remove the damaged hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and then plug this adapter into a working computer's USB port. If this computer sees this hard drive as an external hard drive and you can open the various folders and files, then I would backup your data.
If the hard drive is not detected then the hard drive is dead and data cannot be retrieved with this method.

How do i clone my hard drive onto an external hard drive

Are you using Windows? If you are using Windows, go to Start => Programs => Accessories => System Tools => Backup. In the backup wizard that opens, choose which backup type you want and you can choose your backup destination. Choose your Seagate Expansion external drive for your backup location so that Windows can store an image of your current system into your external drive.

I need general info on using an external hard drive. My computer is full and I'm unsure if I should replace the computer or start moving thing to the external hard drive. Also, I keep getting a message...

The drive will be assigned a letter. Find it in my computer. You can right click on any file and select send to and send it to the external drive. Basically you now have a backup of that file. Now you can delete the origional off the main hard drive and just read the file from the external drive. As far as the icons right click and select find target. That will show you were the file is and you can delete it.

    Unstable projector connection in vista

    You have bad news.
The flickering is caused by a faulty video card, can't be fixed as it is a chip on the motherboard. Need to replace the motherboard, this may not be cost effective, might be better to buy a new laptop.

Remove the hard drive from this laptop and insert it into a USB hard drive adapter case and you then have an external hard drive that can plug into a USB port of any computer to copy, backup and transfer files.
