Question about Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-F717 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Dsc-f717 after a battery change camera cannot turn on.

Changed the battery then switched cam on... "on" light flashed on for split second then off. repeated attempts with other batteries gave same result or a "nothing" response from camera
could it be a problem with an internal battery (isn't there one that remembers date, time etc?)
one person wondered if the flash of the "on" light might signal some kind of override....

Flash doesn't work

The fault may be a simple setting that may have been changed, have you checked your Manual to see if you can disable the flash? Is the flash disabled?

If no, take it to a Camera Repair shop (can be sent through any Camera Retailer) and get a quote to fix it, then decide whether it is economical to fix or better to buy another camera.

Note: this is still a "good" camera for it's features, so don't rush out and buy another camera unless you really want to.

Good luck.

DSC-F717 won't turn on

You are correct. The battery has lost it`s life.

Contact your nearest Sony dealer and ask them for the NP-F50 battery which I think your camera uses.

The reason why the battery still shows it is charging ( if your interested ) is due to the sensing cct - you will see your battery has three poles and not just 2. The sensing pin is faulty due to the buildt in PCB having a problem. The batteries probably are still ok inside, but the sensing cct does the actual charge control.

Best of luck.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-F717 5.0 Megapixel

Hi Bella

That code means that the lens unit was unable to move from home position to switch on position.

These lens are extremely complex and I doubt if you could find someone able to repair the lens.

Therefore I suggest contacting Sony to find a accredited dealer to quote you on replacement of the lens.

My guess is it will cost half of what you originally paid for the camera.

Good luck.
