Question about Desa International 100089 06 Electric Chain Saw

1 Answer

Worn plastic drive gear

The plastic drive gear teeth are worn beyond functional use.
We live in Baja California Sur, Mexico, some 800 miles south of San Diego, California.
I would rather install the gear mechanism myself than pay some 'shop technician' to do the same thing.
What would be the cost of this component, plus shipping to an Arizona
address.
Additional label data: Type EL-6 Model 107624-01

Here is a link to the owner's manual... http://12.153.20.74/manuals/107705-01V.PDF. The part you need is 107713-01. You can order it online at www.masterparts.net or by calling 800-446-1446. They should have it in stock. I hope this helps.

The marks on the drive links are because the chain has come off, not the reason why it has come off, if this is the tooless chain adjuster i would replace the side cover with the non tooless cover you can then tighten the nut up with a 13mm spanner, you also need to check the machine is oiling adiquatley, aim the tip of the bar at a tree stump and check you have a good spray of oil coming from the bar.

Motor runs but chain is static can get it to go if I pull the chain round by hand but any resistance and the problem returns

Clutch slipping due to wear, or the sproket teeth have worn to the point that it is slipping in the drive links of the chain, i have seen the teeth/spline on the sprocket drum become unbonded, so the drum tuns but the teeth/rim does not.

The main drive gear is slipping. This is caused by etiher worn teeth or worn bearings. If you pass the model number I can show you a diagram of where to look and what part or parts that have most likely failed. The drive gear is the weakest link but the motor can be shifting in the housing away from the drive gear. It only takes a bit less than 1/8 inch side play. The model number will be similar to this 358.341160

Most likely it is item 26 of this diagram:

This example is for model 358.381160

I am having problems with the chain coming off the guide rail of a Husqvarna 345. A new rail and chain was put on the saw recently. When the chain came off last time I noticed a lot of wear on the teeth...

It is possible that the clutch sprocket teeth are badly worn causing extra wear on the drive teeth of the chain. Remove the bar and chain to check the sprocket--you can determine the wear by comparing the area where the chain runs to the edges of the sprocket that are relatively unworn. If the sprocket requires replacement, the chain should be replaced as well. The chain normally should be loose enough that the chain can be moved by hand, but it should not droop from the lower bar edge. Check the chain oiling by running the bar tip at speed near some cardboard--it should throw off a thin line of oil after a moment or two. There should be an oil volume adjustment screw located on the under side of the case near the chain return area--turn CCW to increase flow. Hope this helps!

Motor runs, chain does not turn

It occurs because it is plastic gear on a low cost saw.
I went to Remington and found the IPB for your saw.
http://shoppingcart.msservicecompany.com/msservice_net/product_files/107624%2001/107624-01-EL-8-BD.pdf
The gear is pn 107713-01 and NLA at Remington (no longer in production, no local support either).

Input "107713" here and found 2 results

If me and I were going to try a repair I would use the 122511-01 for the bearing if nothing else.

My saw runs well when the chain and bar is off but will not turn the chain when it is on the bar. What do I need to do?

1) insure that the 'chain brake' is diactivated
2) inspect the drive teeth on the sprocket for being worn (appears as a groove in the center of the teeth)

let me know from there, rwvanlue

Internal gear slipping ,seems like rart of gear

you may be able to fix your problem by tightening up the chain a bit more. other wise, you may have to have that gear replaced because as you indicate it may have had it's teeth worn down. i would begin by tightening the chain.
