The following link is the download for the latest printer driver and software direct from HP's support site. You should be able to use these without a problem. DRIVERS ARE HERE
The Disc that came with your printer may not have supported Vista, and the updated one on HP support should be updated to work with vista.

Unfortunately HP has not issued a separate Vista driver for your printer. They do, however, give some pointers for setting up and using your printer for printing and scanning.
wow vista. after the service update some devices on some models would convert to the vista system. you need to go to devices, and properties and were you audio is click on drivers and revert back if available. if not, you will need to go to the manufactures web site and using your model down load the drivers for your model and keep the file. instal and it should fix your sound problem.
If you do a new, clean install of Vista in 2018, one would be missing hundreds of updates from Microsoft that would be very hard if not impossible to get. Some of those updates might apply to software that you want to use in conjunction with Windows Vista. And if it is an older PC, you might not be able to find driver support for the particular make/model, and Vista might not have the drivers you need. How many times have you heard someone say, "I just reinstalled Vista, but now I am missing drivers?"
This could be your trouble, because even if your Vista updated all the way up to April 2017, you could still be missing HP updates provided by HP/Microsoft through Windows Update.
Since Microsoft has not supported Vista since April 2017, I would recommend not using it anymore in 2018.
Use Paint.
It's not ideal, but I can scan with my HP PSC 1205 running Vista when I use Paint. Just click 'file' then 'from Scanner or Camera'.
Works a treat.
