Question about Projection Televisions

Need a tuner for HDTV Samsung Model #HLR4667W

Cable TV man checked out our HDTV, and said we might need a tuner for the regular channels. We are receiving the High Def. channels fine. We have no idea if we could repair this ourselves or buy the part and get a repair person. We do not know if the tuner is one system with a split for regular or High Def or if regular stands alone. Please tell us what we should do for the least expense. Our TV is only 2 years old. Thank you so much.

Greetings Pete - No, your display is what is called HDTV ready, meaning it needs a separate tuner AKA set top box.

You need to get the cable box, plug in the component video cables into your TV (usually provided) and plug in audio cables and you're viewing HDTV. See below:

If these tv is digital why I need to use a converter box to see the channels

Because it does not have a ATSC nor a Quam tuner in it. Just a regular tuner. As it says HDTV ready. This meant back when you bought it that it will receive HD when a hd cable box is used and connected to the DVI or the Component input in the back. This was a low end set at the time. It will still receive regular cable without a box.

Digital Channels??

Direct from the Hitachi website - "Integrated HDTV Tuners: Hitachi's new top-of-the-line XWX series features built-in ATSC terrestrial and cable HDTV tuners to provide integrated high resolution, high-definition signal decoding." You will need a seperate HDTV tuner if you do not have cable or satellite and want to watch off-air High Definition channels.

Did you check to make sure that in the options, the TV channel configuration is set to CATV or Cable mode, and not to Antenna mode?

If the above is true, the tuner module in your TV is probably defective.

You need to call in a TV service person who is familar with the type of TV you have to check the tuner.

Help with definition

You need an HD Tuner box to pick up the over-the-air HD channels. This TV is only HD ready. Regarding your cable company's cable box, as long as it has an HD tuner, it will be able to transmit HD channels to this TV.

Frozon at chanel 25

Go into the setup menu and redo the tuner setup. It will ask you if it is over-the-air (regular) TV or cable and then it will do a scan that searches for channels.

After that it should work.

If not, you will need service.

However, you may be able to get around a bad TV tuner by using another tuner, such as cable tuner or in your VCR to provide the channels. To do this use another input on your TV or select channel 3 on your TV.

Hope this helps :)
