Well in the options you can secure it by adding a password to be able to acess the network so you can give this password to people you want to be able to acess it

What is the WPS Button on the 2Wire60 Router

Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) is a network security standard that allow users to easily secure a wireless home network, and connect wireless client devices (iPad's etc.) to it, without accessing the router's configuration screens, and without even knowing the wireless network's security.

Wireless Network Security II

We browse the internet and have far fetching concerns of how secure our connection is, especially when its wireless. Here are a few pointers:

The security concerns with wireless network centre around :

Unauthorized access

Eavesdropping

The authentication component (pre-shared keys) of schemes such as WPA and WEP, as well as MAC address filtering, address the issue of restricting access to the wireless network to only authorized devices.

Encryption address the issue of protecting against eavesdropping on the wireless network traffic.

If you turn off WPA (or similar scheme), you are turning off an access control method as well as an encryption method. The wireless network traffic can then be easily eavesdropped on, and the MAC addresses and IP addresses of participating machines can be determined. These can then be spoofed, and the wireless network joined.

Turn back on WPA/WPA2.
Other way to prevent unauthorized network access are
1. Password-protect your wireless connection. Turn on WEP (wired equivalency privacy) or WPA (Wi-Fi protected access) on all of your devices, including your router, your media center. You may also set up a security key for your wireless network.
2. Place the wireless access point away from windows and near the center of your house to decrease the signal strength outside of the intended coverage area.
3. Keep all software current (including your Web browser) with automatic updates. Use firewall, antivirus, antispam, and antispyware software from a source that you trust and watch out for fake alerts for security software.

Cant connect to the internet..

Hi, What error do you get when connecting to the internet?
Anyways, Probably the Wireless connection your trying to connect to has a Network Security enabled on it.
Gaming consoles cant' access that type of Encryption, reason I do not know why but to be able to get wireless connection using your Nintendo DS you will need to disable the Wireless Network Security of your Wireless Router to be able to get Wireless Access using your Nintendo DS.
I also had issues with mine before and found out that disabling the Network Security will let me get Internet Access on my portable console.
Just Disable the Network Security this will allow you to get Internet Access on your Nintendo, for the Security of your Wireless you can get the MAC Address of each wireless device you have and input those MAC Addresses into the Router Settings to get Security and not allow other poeplt to gain access on your Wireless Internet.
I hope this Helps.
Have a nice day,

Trying to secure wireless network

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. If you want to secure the network you all you need to do is to access the router settings page and put a security either WEP, WPA or WPA2 and a Network Key or Passphrase.

To access the router page you need a working computer that is connected to the router. To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.2.1, the Default password is blank

Click on Security under Wireless, Select WEP, WPA or WPA2 and personalize a Security Key or Network Key (Passphrase). Security Key serves as a password on the network.

If you have questions please let me know. Thanks for using Fixya.

Can i get the procedure to set up a secure network. thank you

A manual for the router can be found here
Instructions for setting up a secure wireless network can be found on page 27 - under Customising Security Settings.
Make sure you use the "custom encryption key" option, and specify you're own passphrase

I would suggest using WPA-PSK authentication (if possible), as it is more secure
Hope this helps

Then it ask for user name and password. Type user as "admin" and password as "admin" or "password" or blank. Then you can see configuration page of router. If you are still not able to access router with above ip then you need to RESET it for that press RESET button for 10 seconds it is in back side of router then all settings defaults..Then you can access it with above method. . Then click on wireless->wireless security->WEP security there is code password note down it or enter new password then save setting s and restart router. then you can connect wireless with new password.
