: This machine is equiped with a graphics card with bnc connector. I also have : a cable with on one end bnc and other end a 2 pin vga connector. I have : severall monitors but they don't give a visible screen. The best I can get : is a screen with some flickering green.
: What kind of monitor do I need to get a normal picture?
: I also tried to get a hyperterminal connection but also without any luck. : What cable and terminal setup do I need?
If you pull out the graphics card while the system is powered down, then the system console will automatically shift to RS232_A, the serial port. This can be connected to hyperterm at 9600/8-N-1 to get you running for a little bit while you work on other graphics card availability.
The system console will stay at the serial port as long as the graphics card is disconnected, and then shift back automagically when a graphics card appears. You must be powered down to insert/withdraw these cards.
You seem to have a graphics card with just one BNC connector, indicating monochrome. You must use one of the HP workstation monitors with this machine. Peecee monitors will not work (in general, due to sync-on-green). You could use the monochrome output with a color monitor (such as 1094 or 2094) by plugging the one BNG cable into the GREEN input of the monitor.
Ordinary color graphics cards (8-bit depth) for this machine are available from surplus houses. Should not be real expensive now that these things are so old. HP monitors are available too, but you would want to minimize shipping on these (easily 25kg and fragile).

OK, I know, a lot of you guys out there are going to go 'Duh!' but:
How the hell do I scan/check/read/anything a coredump that enables me, in very simple terms, to find out me exactly WTF was going on to cause the coredump?
We got several users getting buserror coredumps and we're just stuck.
TIA
Malc

Normal video cards for the 735 will have 3-BNC connectors and will not work with any PC monitor. The problem is that HP (like some other Unix vendors) supply the sync signal on the green lead, something that PCs do not have. You probably have a 735 GRX model which is monochrome (no color) and will only work with monochrome monitors like the 98774A/B. be pretty cheap.
Many HP workstation monitors (sync-on-green, single freq) are available very cheaply because they won't work on a PC without a special (expensive) video card that supplies sync and refuses to change frequency when told to by the OS.
Humm, hyperterminal is a PC terminal emulator (somewhat like a vt100) which works with telnet or serial ports.
I will assume you mean RS-232 connection. You must use a PC crossover cable (not a modem cable) as you are connecting two computers together. These serial cables are sometimes called serial printer cables.
Set the emulator to 9600, 8 bits characters. However, you will see nothing on the screen until HP-UX boots *and* the serial port has been enabled. This is a graphics workstation and the console software will talk to the video card unless the 735 boot ROMs have been reconfigured to use the RS-232 port. You can try removing the video card to force the 735 to use the RS-232 port.
