Question about Whirlpool Cabrio WTW6600SBT Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Water valve P/N 8577407 failed after 13 months

I have a Whirlpool washer model WTW6600SW and teh water valve (8577407) failed after 13 months of use. Cost to repair $260.45.

I contacted Whirlpool and asked if this was common for a 13 month old washer - no comment but Whirlpool did contact the local service comapany and paid for the part - $92.80.

I did not purchase an extended warranty as I did not expect a major failure within 13 months. Lesson learned.

does the hard water issue apply even when you are using a water softener?

    @Jstr1ck,

The point of a water softener is to get rid of hard water deposits. You should not a hard water problem if your softener is working properly.

Do you live in an area that has hard water? Are you using well water? If either of these cases pertain to you, this could be contributing to the water valve failing. Rust, sediment, and calcium deposits can clog these valves and cause problems and be the reason why you may be experiencing a higher than normal failure rate on the part.

SOURCE: f70 code, The washer won't start

Check out your latch before changing the computer part. They're easily broken, and cause the machine to think that it's the computer parts.

Water keep filling til machine overflow and need to turn of water inlet valve

if you have to shut off the water supply valve of the residence (water keeps flowing after turning off the washing machine or unplugging the washer), the failed component is definitely a stuck open water inlet valve (fill valve) of the appliance. If the water stopped by pushing the timer or unplugging the machine, another internal electrical control related problem exists, such as a faulty timer assembly or controller board, or a pressure system failure (water level detection/monitoring system) - failed pressure switch (rare), clogged air hose or tub air dome (common in GE top-load washers), disconnected air hose (common in frigidaire top load washers & GE/Frigidaire/Kenmore stacked washer/dryer combo units).

While a simple repair can be done by yourself for a failed inlet valve, usually for $25-$50 in parts/shipping (go to searspartsdirect.com or appliancepartspros.com to look up a replacement fill-valve using your washing machine model number), the water damage potentially caused by the flooding is more important to address.

I recommend contacting your insurance company if there's a bunch of water that flooded your home - the water can cause delayed warping of flooring or cause mold to grow in/beneath your carpets and walls if the water was not immediately noticed and cleaned up (within first few minutes of flooding) - they send out water remediation specialists to dry (if possible), or to repair the damage to your home.

The washer starts and water runs for about 3 seconds and then stops. i can hear the motor run like it is running but no water. it goes to spin like normal. i have a cabrio wtw6600sw top load

Hi from retired Englishman in SW France,

If you have checked that the hot and cold water taps are turned on fully and the hoses are not kinked or squashed at the back, it is worth while checking both the hot and cold water inlet filters. Turn the taps off and remove both hoses at the washer end. Inside each inlet port there is normally a little filter which should just slide out. Clean if necessary and replace each one and the hoses. If after turning the taps back on there is no improvement, the problem is symptomatic of a malfunctioning hot or cold water control valve. Sorry but it needs a service call and a check that it isn't the control PCB ;-0(

If this has assisted you please consider a 4 thumbs up for the rating.
Thanks and good luck,
John C

Washing machine wont fill with water, just hums. Spin works fine, just wont fill with water.

The humming noise is caused by the water valve solenoids trying to open. You will need to remove the hoses from the back of the machine and see if there is any calcium or water deposit on the screens in the water vavles. If there is try cleaning it out and testing, if there is none, the water fill vavle will need to be replaced, you can order parts for it at, Reliable Parts by using your model number. Valve should cost around $45. For information on how to perform your repair, please reply.

Thanks, Repairman45

Whirlpool Duet washer fills with water by itself

sounds like a faulty water inlet valve, not seating properly after closing the valve.replacing the valve is the only solution to this problem, in the meantime you can turn off your water supply in between doing loads.

not a bad habit to get into!!!!
