Question about NetGear WGT624 Wireless Router

Setting up NetGear WTG624v3

PC and Laptop both running Vista Home Premium
DSL and VOIP both supplied by Speakeasy.net

this router was bought in 9/2007 and worked fine until i got a new computer and laptop. now i am attempting to set up my network again but can't access any of the ip addresses given by NetGear [192.168.1.100 for one]. i keep getting that famous "ie cannot open the website". this happens in ie and firefox.

i believe once i get past this hurtle i can get my network up and running w/o any additional problems. hope someone can help...i'm tearing my hair out from frustration and anger.

thanx for your help but i've already done that. 216.254.119.1 is the default gateway that comes up when i ipconfig.

when i hook up the router and plug the blue cable from the pc to the internet port on the router the internet connection becomes inactive. if i plug the blue cable into any of the other ports on the router both local and internet connections work.

i'm not able to go any further with this installation...

    any additional ideas?????????????????

In order for your to access the router setup for this you need to check the IP address and default gateway of the computer that is wired to the router, the defaul gateway is the number that you need to type in to the address bar so you can reconfigure the router back, To check Ip and default gateway of your computer, Just click on the Windows logo and look for start search then after that type in CMD and hit enter then you will be on the command prompt there type in IPCONFIG hit enter and there look for IPV4 and look for the default gateway, the default gateway should start with a 192.168.x.x the default gateway is the number that you need to type to the address bar to be able to log in to the router.

Note if the IPV4 starts with a169.x.x.x you need to press and hold the reset button of the router for 15 seconds and check ip agaian if you already getting a 192.168.x.x...then continue accessing the router page...

This default gateway that you have is coming out from your modem , so let me ask you did you do IPCONFIG while computer is connected via the modem alone or the computer is connected to the router? because if the computer is connected to the router and you do IPCONFIG and this number came up 216.254.119.1 it only means one thing router is already bad, but if you do IPCONFIG when connected directly to modem and that default gateway came up that's OK, don't try to access the router setup page when you're not conencted wired to the router and computer not having a default gateway of 192.168.x.x because you won't be able to access it...

Feel free to contact me back for more information and don't forget to rate the solution FIXYA thank you.....

Are you trying to set up router ?
You can set up your router manually, without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

your easiest solution is probably just to reset everything back to defualt settings. there is a small pin hole button on the back or bottom to do this.
hope this helps!

So you have a DSL modem connected to a router connected to a wireless router connected to both your computers? Sounds like you need to just get a wireless modem and throw all the routers away.

Toshiba laptop running Vista loses connectivity

The problem is not Vista, the problem is the Netgear. I have seen this happen time and time again with both Netgear (primarily) and D-Link (often). That's why I *only* recommend Linksys.

Worst case - go buy one from Walmart (yes, they have 'em). Hook it up and see the difference. If, somehow, the problem persists, take it back, and you've lost nothing. But I'd bet (as they say down here in the South "dollars to doughnuts") that's your problem :)

Hope this helps - remember to rate :)
