Question about Garmin StreetPilot c340 GPS Receiver

Streetpilotc340 when pressing a number, letter or area on the screen, it will highlight the space above or below the one wanted. I have reset it a number of times but does'nt help all the time. what can I do?

    On mine, it picks the icon to the right of my choice  e.g.:  If I select MY LOCATIONS, it goes to FUEL.

    Prior to your suggestion (thanks for it), I did attempt the update download, at which point the whole thing stopped working!  So I called Garmin.  They told me to return it, and as soon as they got it they would send me a new one!  Astounding Customer Service (of course, I haven't received the new one yet, so maybe I should suspend the compliment)!

Try using a software update from this website:
If that doesn't work, then check to see if it is under warranty so you can try to get it fixed at a shop for free, or push come to shove, you might need a new one.

How do I fix when I touch a key to put in information and it prints a different number or letter than the one touched

Here is a way to recalibrate the touchscreen without having to go through the menus:

If your Nuvi has the problem that when you press one key but another key is highlighted, then either your touchscreen is defective or it is miscalibrated.

For example, pressing the letter "A" on the QWERTY keypad, actually highlights the letter "S" or "Q" or "Z". On the non-QWERTY keypad, this may show up as "B".

Method #1: If you can get to the main menu, press the "wrench/tools" icon and then the "Display" icon. Now press the calibrate screen button and go through the entire procedure of pressing each dot as it appears on the screen until it says "Done".

Method # 2: Follow this procedure if you can't get to the main menu or any menu thereafter.

First, turn the unit OFF.

Nuvi 3xx & 6xx Series: Hold down the on/off power button and don't let go of it.

On the screen it will say "Pre-boot mode"..... keep holding the button down..... after some time you will eventually come to a screen with dots. If the screen says "Loading" and does not go to to the calibration screen with the dots, you will need to connect the Nuvi to a PC with a USB cable and rename the file "GUPDATE.GCD" within the Garmin directory to "GUPDATE.OLD". Once the file has been renamed, repeat the above procedure.

Once you reach the calibration screen, now you can let off of the on/off power button. Go through the entire procedure of pressing each dot as it appears on the screen until it says "Done".

Nuvi 2xx/2xxW Series: Turn the Nuvi off. Place your finger on the upper left-hand corner of the screen and then slide the on/off power switch to the left and hold until you see the calibration screen. Note: Some 2xxW models require the procedure below for the 7xx.

Nuvi 7xx Series: Turn the Nuvi off. Touch the screen anywhere and keep your finger there while moving the on/off switch to left (don't wait for Garmin logo to come up) and then quickly moving the switch the right (lock position). After a short while, you will reach the calibration screen. Go through the entire procedure of pressing each dot as it appears on the screen until it says "Done".

Nuvi 8xx Series: Turn the Nuvi off. Remove the battery from the Nuvi for at least 10 seconds. Press and hold your finger on screen, while putting the battery back in. The Nuvi will boot-up and you should see the text "Pre-boot Mode" appear on the screen. Continue pressing on the screen until pre-boot goes away and the progress bar appears. Now remove your finger. After a short while, you will reach the calibration screen. Go through the entire procedure of pressing each dot as it appears on the screen until it says "Done".

Nuvi 11xx, 12xx, 13xx, 14xx, 16xx, 24xx, 25xx Series: Turn off the Nuvi. Place your finger on the upper left-hand corner of the screen and then push down on the power button to turn the unit on. Release the power button when the Garmin logo appears. Continue to press on the upper left-hand corner of the screen until you see the calibration screen.

Once completed the Nuvi will display Calibration Complete

This will recalibrate your touchscreen to the LCD display.

If this doesn't resolves your problem. then your touchscreen may be defective.

Touch screen has stopped functioning after only two weeks. Numbers are all out of position etc. For example, press 2 to get 5, in contacts press name above the one you want and then it wont call the person...

toutch screen missed alignment. I can't verify what model you have, but for some model, like Garmin, you could reset to factory mode by hold your finger tip in right&bottom corner of screen, then power up. after that you can do alignment position by toutch cross mark

Try recalibrating your touch screen. if that does not work make sure and rule out pressure damage to specific section of screen. if it turns out to be physical damage to screen or device that recognizes touch. call Garmin for further solutions.

You may have to calibrate your touch screen. This is typically in the utility or setup menu. You also may need to do a hard reset. There should be a recessed button that will reset and reload the software.

When i hit the lower right hand coner the unit responds letters above? the screen is not synced with where i push?

To reset the screen sync, press and hold the battery icon for a few seconds (you may have to press below it with your fault). You'll then go into a diagnostic mode, scroll through the screens using the buttons at the bottom until you get to a menu item which allows you to re-sync the screen. Eventually you'll cycle through all the pages to the start and can press exit to return to normal mode.

Lose satellite signal unable to reconnect until unit off for hours, have tried turning of GPS and turn back on. Turn simulates on and off but still it does not reconnect and the unit is in a clear space...

  2. Place your fingertip or the eraser end of a pencil in the bottom right corner of the touchscreen
  3. While pressing down on the screen, power ON the unit and continue pressing on the screen. A message displays to confirm if you really want to delete all user data?
  4. Touch Yes.
  5. The unit will now restart.
  6. Follow the onscreen prompts to set up the nuvi.
Once the reset is complete, please place your unit in an area with clear view of the sky until it acquires satellites. If you are still having issues please contact product support at (800) 800-1020

To add a space you touch an icon on the screen which is beside the letter M and just above the Done button on the enter name screen.

I don't have a Nuvi 2xx with me at the moment but on a 3xx & 6xx series, press the wrench symbol and then the display icon and select recalibrate screen and go through the process and touch the dots as it tells you to do. This will recalibrate the touch screen.

Need to reset the touch screen

dust can enter the tomtom membrane that sits just above the screen. if there are dust particles in there trapped then this can effect the operation of the touch screen. It normally happens only around the edge of the screen so it is possible to clean it out after removing the screen bezel.
