Window and OSX - fun and joy.
Since you formatted a 1TB drive and it works fine in Windows, I have to concluded the the drive was formatted NTFS.
Here is the issue in a nutshell, OSX supports reading NTFS but have very limited write cababilities.
If you want both Windows and OSX to have full access to an external drive you should format it FAT32. The only issue then is that under normal conditions a FAT32 drive has a maximum size of 32GB.
I would partition the drive to have 1 or more FAT32 partitions and then have the rest of the drive NTFS.

Is the OSX version correct or should it be 10.3. If it is actually 1.3 it would mean you have the OSX Server edition that originally came out in 1999 and it may not have very good USB support - version 1.2 would only support 1 USB device.

My Western Diagnostic My Book is not showing up in

That happened to me but with windows. I ended up having to burn a Knoppix Linux boot disc and when i booted up with Linux it was able to access the drive and i tediously backed up my files to another drive and formatted the broken drive and that fixed it. It was a while back so i may have forgotten something but having a Knoppix disc has gotten me into a lot of broken drives. Good luck.

I bouth WD Studio 1TB and was told that I can format it for Windows 7. At the moment its formatted for Mac. How can I reformat it for Windows?

You need to plug it in and go to 'Administrative Tools' in the 'Control Panel'.

Go to 'Computer Management'.

Then on the side panel click 'Disk Management'.

All your discs will be listed.

Click on the one that you want to reformat.

Then click on 'Format'. It will take some time but will format in Windows file system.

My Western digital 1tb wont work inspite of drivers being instal

Mybook does not require any additional driver to work on systems from Win XP onward, same for recents Linux and MAC OS.
If the drive is not detected on more of one computer, then it is usually because of a fault.
Try a replacement cable (mybook uses Mini USB to USB, available at computer and at camera shops). If still no luck contact WD, mybooks have one year warranty. If you want to recover data, the disk must be mounted on a different enclosure, that service can be asked when discussing repair.

Replacing HDD's on WD MyBook World II won't format

I was attempting something similiar -- replacing my World Edition II 500GB drives with 1TB drives. My research unearthed two things... These units will only work with Western Digital Caviar Green drives. The blue ring won't light if other drives are installed. I also read (in a couple spots) that the unit's O/S is stored on the hard drive (as opposed to be stored in Flash memory). If this is true, you would need to image the old drive to the new (using a tool like Ghost or True Image), and increase the partition size as part of the imaging process. I don't know if this would work, as I opted to not proceed with the upgrade. For me, the new version of the World Edition II (WDH2NC20000 and WDH2NC40000) turned out to be a better option than upgrading. These units provdide the extra space and are MUCH faster than the old ones.

How can i get get WD "my book" hd to also work with windows

Some solutions possible:
(Optional: - First split the video in chunks <2GB to make them more compatible with older filesystems and networking technologies)
A) Copy the file over the network (e.g. using Windows Sharing on the Mac, or using File and Printer Sharing on Vista)
B) Try to do it via the MyBook.  This means the Mac must be able to write something and Vista must be able to read it.  You say you've "set up" the MyBook "for my macbook pro".  How did you format it?  What filesystem?  Mac OS Extended (HFS+) with Journaling?  In general, you need to install something on Vista to read the Mac's filesystem format (HFS+), or on the Mac to write a Windows format (probably best to use NTFS).  Examples of software like that are:    (Win) MacDisk <http://www.macdisk.com>, MacDrive <http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive>    (Mac) MacFUSE with NTFS-3G <http://macntfs-3g.blogspot.com/>       or Paragon NTFS <http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/>
B2) If you've formatted the MyBook as FAT32, you're lucky.  Just split the movie file in chunks <2GB, copy them to the MyBook, copy them from the MyBook in Vista and join the chunks again.
(for splitting you can use e.g. HJSplit and its compatibles <http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/>) (also check e.g. "NTFS on your Mac two ways" <http://www.tuaw.com/2007/11/19/ntfs-on-your-mac-two-ways/> for an alternative explanation.)

Formatted (on PC) 1TB WD hard drive cannot be altered on Macbook

What OS are you running? What is it formatted as FAT32 or NTFS and how big are the partitions. Various operating systems, hardware and formatting schemes have different limitations. If you want to use the drive in Leopard formatted with NTFS which is the only way to create partitions larger than 20 or 30 GB you may need to install an NTFS file system driver like FUSE.
The other option is to format it as HFS and install Macdrive 7 in Windows to use Mac formatted drives in Windows.

Hope this helps.

Acces denied

If you have linux experience and are up for a bit of hacking, here is a solution to your problem:

I bought a 1Tb MyBook World Edition, and it was little better than a doorstop because of the "Access Denied" bug. However, now it runs like a dream.

Far far better than WD Technical Support.
