Question about Motorola Mobility W490 Cellular Phone
My W490 phone's display goes to a white screen and will not come out of it unless I turn the phone off then back on. I have gone to the Motorola web site, downloaded and installed the software but still same issue.
You need to replace the flex cable. It's the cable that connects the circuit board (under the numbers) to your screen. It runs through the bend in your phone so as you can imagine it takes alot of abuse. I had the same problem with my w490. I couldn't find another phone in my price range that I liked so I decided to fix the 490 myself. The cable was $7 on ebay and the small star screw driver was $6 (T3 - T6) at Lowe's. I used a plastic knife in place of the special cell phone tool. Doing it myself was challenging. It took me about an hour because I had to figure out how to take the phone apart, replace the cable then reassemble it while defending all the parts and pieces from my 15 month old. Now my phone works fine. No more white screen or having to turn it on or off several times.

Hello. The same thing happened to me. I simply called and told them that I found lots of people with similar problems and they had me send it in and sent me another one for 10 dollars for shipping. So I suggest that you call and tell them that you looked it up and you know that the only way to fix it is to get a new one and tell them that you know other people have had the same problem. They will let you send it in and charge you 10 dollars for shipping and you will get a new one. Been through it twice haha. Good luck.

I have the exact same problem. I figure it's cuz I was always flipping my phone open and closed that I wore out the cable.
BUT. I figured out how to fix this. It's sort of annoying though, and you'll have to do it everytime you open/close the screen, but if you can't afford a new cell right now (like me) this is probably the best solution.
So I figured since it takes the phone a long time to recognize/react to it being opened or closed, I should probably give it a little more time to do so. SO, instead of just flipping the phone open or closed instantly, do it very slowly, inch by inch until it's fully opened/closed, and then voila, the screen'll display without you getting a stupid white/black screen! (but...yeah, it's sort of a hassle, so I suggest you get it repaired or buy a new phone).
