I have a Nikon D70s the suddenly started to show an Err message in the viewfinder and the LCD on the top of the camera. This happens when I try taking a picture after depressing the button halfway down first.
I have googled for this and alot of people offer suggestions, but I have not seen any solutions that are confirmed. Can anyone here assist?
I had the same problem with my D70.
Ended up having the shutter repaired at the tune of $135.
Works fine now.
Had the work done at Gary Camera nad Video
Merrillville, IN 46410
Hope this helps

The Nikon D-90 users manual says on page 256 that the ERR message indicates a camera malfunction and that it can be cleared by releasing the shutter.
I've found on my D-90 that the only way I can get the shutter to release is my turning the camera off. When I turn it back on the ERR message is gone and the camera functions as it should.
Occasionally, I have had to remove and reinstall the battery to make the camera turn off but this happens only rarely.
The users manual says if the condition occurs frequently or persists that you should contact a Nikon authorized repair center. I suggest that you contact Nikon tech support at www.nikon.com to see what they suggest. I think this information would apply to the D-80 as well.
HiI am sorry that I can not understand well about your statement. So Let me ask you. Do you see any error message on top lcd or back of TFT lcd. It is like "CHK" or "ERR"Please let me know more detail. Thanks and best regard!
Place the card in the camera. There are 2 buttons on the D70 that say "Format". They are both in red. One on the top right button of the camera and the other is to the left of the viewfinder. Press them at the same time for 3 seconds. The lcd will blink "For". Press the 2 buttons again. Done.
Some digital SLR camera have a mirror lock and others have a viewfinder shutter
In each case this will be a knob in the region of the viewfinder that turns.
Check that this model has it and it has not be inadvertently turned.
Then come back
