Using LCD (32") as extended desktop (monitor) for Vista laptop

Hi. I have a Hannspree 32" LCD TV that I plan to use as a computer monitor to extend the desktop of my laptop (with Vista). I know this is possible because a year ago I got the same Hannspree TV (but an older version) which we use as monitor for the desktop.

Problem is that the image appears unstable and shakey. This may be becuase the only option for resolution is 1280x728. On the desktop, the resolution is set 1360x728.

Any ideas?

SOURCE: Sharp Aquos Resolution

According to the manual for the TV, you need to change the resolution on the computer itself first.
The computer resolution should be 1024 X 768 at 60Hz or 1360 X 768 at 60Hz.

After the adjustment made on the laptop, then try the resolution change option.

SOURCE: I connected my laptop to my LCD TV using VGA

Easy way:
Press and hold Fn key, and then look at the F1-F10 keys.. Most likely it is F7, and has a picture like a computer screen.
So, press and hold Fn key, and then press F7 (or whatever key it is for your laptop). This will change your "presentation" settings, and thus switch back and forth from laptop screen, laptop screen + external screen (TV), just external screen (TV).
-------------

If this doesn't work as you expect, just try:

Instructions for Windows XP:

Open the Display Properties window by:
Start -> Run -> %windir%\system32\control.exe desk.cpl,@0,3
(this is the same window where you can change screen resolution).

There you will see two or more "screens", labeled: 1, 2, 3.

Click on "1", and you'll see:

[X] Use this device as the primary monitor
[X[ Extent Windows desktop onto this monitor

Click on "2", this is your TV.. Mark

[ ]
[X] Extent Windows desktop onto this monitor

Then change the resolution to 800x600.
Click Apply

=> now your TV should start showing you a picture.
You can move your mouse between the laptop screen and the TV screen.

If you want just the TV, you can make "2" to be your primary monitor, by clicking on [X] Use this device as the primary monitor.

Why is desktop green like theres way to much yellow hue

If your LCD TV or monitor has stopped working, or is displaying one of the following symptoms, then it's a candidate for some new capacitors
- Flickering screen
- Screen image disappears after several seconds
- Dim screen
- Slow start
- Power LED on, but no picture
- Unusual colors and/or lines
The primary cause of LCD TV and monitor failure is caused by faulty capacitors. You can examine the capacitors in your LCD TV or monitor and actually see if they are bad.
If they appear bulged on top, then they need to be replaced.
New capacitors will solve a host of problems in LCD monitors and TV's and will extend the life of your monitor or TV by several years.
Check the cables, connectors and connections.
Take it to a repair shop.

What is occurring is the TV monitor is extending your desktop, where what you were doing in the past is switching between the two. When you plugged the VGA cable in, what occurred is your desktop was increased to account for the size of the TV, and it is acting like a second monitor, If you go into the display properties on your computer you will see a monitor with a 1 and one with a 2. The monitor with a 2 on it is the television, and whatever side it is to the #1 monitor (most likely to the right) if you scroll your mouse to the right of the monitor on your computer you should see it appear on the TV, to play or have a window on your TV, simply click and drag the window into the TV screen Frame, and then maximize the window, this will allow you to continue to work on your computer monitor while the other program runs on the television. It's basically like having two monitors instead of switching between the two

Dual Monitors. #1 works fine. Plug inb #2 and #1 goes to sceeen saver and #2 stays blank.

Both monitors must be plugged in when the computer is started for the second monitor to be detected, and you must configure the second monitor once the computer has started
In windows XP: control panel -> display -> settings tab -> select second display -> check "extend my windows desktop onto this monitor" -> click apply
In windows vista/7: control panel -> adjust screen resolution -> select second display and then under "multiple displays" select "Extend desktop to this display"

Connecting laptop to tv

1. If your tv has a PC input, use a vga cable, from any normal computer monitor.

2. If you use those HD connectors, match them to the correct colour coded inputs on the tv.

In each case, do all the connecting with the computer POWERED OFF. Then when connected, boot the computer, and allow Windows to auto-detect the 'new monitor', as it will 'see' it.

Then you shoud right click on your desktop, choose properties, and goto 'settings'. From there you will see monitors 1 and 2. click on the new monitor and 'enable' it.

You also have the option of 'extending' windows to the second monitor, as well as making this your 'default monitor'. Experiment to see what best suits your needs,

Erik.
