I am going to buy a car, and I am thinking of taking a loan at a bank, but wonder what was best: whether to take the loan at the dealership or at the bank itself. Do you think banks are offering nice

Generally, if you're buying a new car, a bank or even a credit union can't come close to the low interest rate you can get at a dealership. Bottom line, go with whomever offers the lowest interest rate.

Ombudsmen i need help with more information about bad service and dont know how to get hold of a ombudsman in amanzimtoti durban

There are two ways of approaching it- if it is a dealership then they will be RMI registered. This is the Retail Motor Industry. It acts as the watchdog over the motor industry but had little clout if it is a smaller company who is not registered.

The other route to go is to try escalate your grievance within the company until you get to someone who can make a decision. We often deal with the man on the ground who is merely a puppet!

Failing that, it becomes a legal battle which could cost a fortune and never achieve much. It does help to know your rights with regards to the CPA and if anything there is relevant for a bit of leverage.

Email me on and lets discuss your problem and maybe I can advise as to a route of action.

- A Toyota dealership in Virginia sold a 2005 Range Rover HSE. I noticed a flickering battery light and within a week the vehicle navigation and radio display reboots several times while I was driving....

These are complicated cars but these guys are just trying to run out the warranty on you. By suggesting you drive the car, they want you to take delivery of the vehicle, and as you said, you cannot register thus you cannot drive it. If they wanted to help you, they would have one of their own drive the car for 500miles and then check it.

If you want to continue with the purchase, have them write out another 30 day warranty for you then you will know they are genuine.

Have them refund your money and look for another car if you feel that this is not for you and they refuse the deal. At the end, the dealership is out for profit and you are not profiting their business, so be very cautious.

The good thing though is you can always find another car that is less problematic. Range Rovers are expensive cars to keep when they are problematic.

Hope that helps you.

I have a 2003 vw passat turbo the dealer said it needed a coolant flush due to sludge. I paid $75 for flush, then they said need diagnostic another $79. After they said oil cooler leaking. How do I know if...

Switch mechanics. You can get free diagnostic from parts stores. If the oil cooler is leaking, you will see it--and $450 is too high. The part is less than $100!!!

Transmission/Oil Leak

Your transmission cooling line was rubbing because the radiator support was pushed rearward in the collision. If indeed the dealership did do the necessary repairs, than there should be no problem. I'm assuming they got a great deal of cash from the insurance people and used it wisely. However, your problem has not been solved and there is no reason for you to be going through this mental anguish. You might try a quick fix until you bring the vehicle back in. Take a large cable tie (found at all hardware stores) and tie off the line that is rubbing to one side away from the belts. Usually there is another fluid line nearby at which point you'll be able to anchor the line at fault to the one further away. Get that vehicle back to the original repair place and mention the words "Attourney General" in your discussion, that will expidite your repair. Thanks, Dana

Potential remanufactured engine

Hey man, here's the thing.. Dealerships always tell you to take your car to them for service because they record everything done to a car so in times like this you could just look the info up..

For instance.. My timing belt broke and ruined my engine so i took it to my best friends import tuning shop and had him do an engine swap, no big deal, altho my receipt from his shop is THE ONLY way anyone would ever know that i swapped unless i told them. I did the right thing and had it added to my car's "history" when I replaced recalls at the dealership but even the dealership couldn't tell my engine was not the original and your dealership COULD tell, so man.. you need to contact the ppl that sold you the car, because lawfully you are due a refund or at the very least an intense history report of when they or any other previous owners had the car. Also the dealership is completely correct in that there is definitely a code on that tab coming off the cylinder head.. and if it has been milled off, it was milled for a reason, to hide something obviously so contact your previous owner (get it off the title if you forgot who they are) ask them everything they know about the engine, you'll be able to tell if they are honest.. and if they know nothing, then next step is contacting the shop that changed the timing belt and tell them you want answers to what happened to your "original" engine. This is a tough one..

Good luck
