Potential remanufactured engine
Hey man, here's the thing.. Dealerships always tell you to take your car to them for service because they record everything done to a car so in times like this you could just look the info up..
For instance.. My timing belt broke and ruined my engine so i took it to my best friends import tuning shop and had him do an engine swap, no big deal, altho my receipt from his shop is THE ONLY way anyone would ever know that i swapped unless i told them. I did the right thing and had it added to my car's "history" when I replaced recalls at the dealership but even the dealership couldn't tell my engine was not the original and your dealership COULD tell, so man.. you need to contact the ppl that sold you the car, because lawfully you are due a refund or at the very least an intense history report of when they or any other previous owners had the car. Also the dealership is completely correct in that there is definitely a code on that tab coming off the cylinder head.. and if it has been milled off, it was milled for a reason, to hide something obviously so contact your previous owner (get it off the title if you forgot who they are) ask them everything they know about the engine, you'll be able to tell if they are honest.. and if they know nothing, then next step is contacting the shop that changed the timing belt and tell them you want answers to what happened to your "original" engine. This is a tough one..
