We have this problem too - can only lock the doors by shutting front doors - climb into the car via the back doors - lock front doors from inside and then manually lock back door. Boot is difficult to lock - takes about 3 or 4 attempts to lock it. Driving me mad!! Have been told it is probably worn or broken wires in the flexi hose in the door hinge. I may have to take it to the garage to get repaired.

I had an issue with my driver's side door lock this weekend. Twice, I could not unlock the door, had to call AAA. Are there any other locks on this 2008 HHR? My warranty has expired, car has 31,000 miles on it. Very frustrating. Do not have a remote, this is on access via key.
aaahhh...im glad i have someone that gives enough information to solve your proble,......the short answer is the drivers door lock motor.......the info that you provided proves that the remote is communicating with the vehicle, and that the wiring is good and sound......the part that you ned to know and understand is that door lock motors come in 2 main types. Master and Slave.
The back doors are slaves and they do what the master tells them, self-explanatory.
The front doors are masters. On the calais, there is an option for 2 stage unlocking, where one press of the remote opens the drivers door only, and the second press, unlocks the rest commanded by the passenger door, which is a master.
The master door locks have a remote section and a hardwire section. The hardwire section works because unlock/lock of the drivers door commands all the others but the remote section (electric motor - push/pull) is not working, hence it wont work by itself.
get yourself a 2nd hand drivers door lock motor and this will fix all your problems
Manual unlock door start car. The car battery was low and could not respond to key. If it win't start charge or jump it. Do not disconnect the battery unless you have to some systems require special codes for radios and other equipment. You may have to get the auto club to open the door for the hood release and jump you there. I don't feel bothe remotes batterys went bad at the same time but. The last resort is to change one and try it. Don't expect radio shack to replace your battery for your remote try calling a locksmith or the dealarship. Some dealerships are quite helpful...depends on where you live.
The esiest way will be to ad an aftermarket central lock motor to your cars drivers door you can buy these seperatly at most alarm shops for a few dollars ,the idea is that you can hook up your ebay kit directly to this motor and this motor will drive the cars central locking. The aftermarket motor hooks up to the lock button rod in your drivers door. You will see this rod moving when you remove the trim and lock and unlock yhe door via the up/down button/knob.
I had same problem. It was cured by "flicking" shut the interior opening handle of the drivers door. This allowed the central locking to lock then unlock the drivers door properly. You get into the car in the first place by using the romote to "unlock" and whipping the passenger door open quickly before it has a chance to relock!
