Please use a handsfree headset on the phone and if there is problems hearing on both sides then the fault is with the main board , the ringer or the earpiece.
You need to open the phone to check on board.
Please connect an handfree and see if the call is clear to you and the caller. If so there is problems on the earpiece of the phone . if you meant that the ringer is not working then remove battery and then reset to factory default settings by opening menu- settings- restore factory settings- type 12345. If not the ringer circuit /speaker is faulty.
If under warranty Nokia will replace this free of charge.
Then it means the speaker and earpiece of the phone is bad, this is mostly caused by water damage or the phone hitting a hard object. You need to replace the earpiece of the phone to be able to use it effectively, but before you do that, you can use an external earpiece that you will connect to the earpiece connection port on the phone to receive calls and make calls before you replace the speaker of the phone.
Hope this information helped.
It's good that you want to learn, but I am afraid if you are not yet done any training course. It's not easy, only troubleshooting is tough.
There are two speakers, Ringer and the Speaker, if you can't hear songs, ringtones, etc.. it's the problem with the ringer and if you can't hear keypad tones and call (without activating the Loudspeaker), the the problem is with the speaker which is fitted in the front portion of the phone where your ear place during when making/receiving calls.
Replacing the speaker which with the faulty will fix the problem.
If both aren't working, you need to check the Earpiece (headset) whether it's working or not. If it's working, then there must be circuit short or continuity problem inside the board which is needed to be service by experienced technicians.
In case, Earpiece is also not working, then it's most likely with the Sound IC, you can replace it but no one can guarantee whether it would be successful or not.
Hope this helps.
