After adding an additional 32MB of memory to a Presario 4172 and rebooting
the machine, the system only sees an additional 8MB of memory. I installed
SDRAM PC83 32MB memory. Any ideas? Thanks for you help in advance.

PC100 won't work in your 4786 (as you've found out). It will only
recognize true PC66 modules. Two web vendors, crucial.com and necx.com
allegedly carry the *correct* modules for the 4786.
However, their respective sites do not indicate the speed of those
modules. As such, I would recommend definitely calling them to verify
before ordering from either of those two vendors. I've found that they
both frequently state that they carry the *appropriate* modules for
Presarios that need PC66, only to find out that what they advertise is
actually PC100.
The only reliable vendor I've found that consistently shows the proper
memory for any given computer is K-byte, at: #.
Unfortunately, K-Byte does not sell directly. One has to look for K-byte
memory modules at stores such as Best Buy, etc.
Hope that helps...

I'm seeing the same problem trying to add two 32 Mb modules to a
Presario 4786. I have tried two different types of PC100 SDRAM.
I haven't been able to find true 66 or 83 Mhz chips.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks.
