I reseted the memory and disconected the bios battery. I removed the battery and unplugged it. Still nothing. The lights are on but no one is home... I guess I have to send it to service.

The power light is on, the fan is running, but the screen is black and the keyboard is dead. There are no errors to report because the screen is black. Any thoughts?

    I have the same problem

  • tj4fa Dec 30, 2008

I had the same problem on an HP computer I had with XP Pro. Screen went black and could never see anything to work it. The hard drive and fan would come on but no display.

Never figured it out and destroyed the computer taking it apart after taking it to service reps who said get a new computer. I did get the info off the hard drive with a hard drive reader.

I bought an HP and within 3 weeks it did the same thing except I had unplugged it and took the battery out and later on I tried it and got a screen to come up. The screen was trying to load some Dell **** from their website. It's been working since but I try to never let it go into hibernate mode.

Today my son's HP W340UA with XP Media Center Edition 2005 did the same thing and I'm fighting with the black screen from Hell. It's not responding from any keyboard inputs or from disconnecting the battery and power cord. It's like it gets stuck trying to hibernate or go to sleep.

I'm thinking it's an automatic upgrade sent to computers jacking up the software. I don't think this stuff is a hardware issue and suspect automatic upgrade patches sent to our computers to make people get new computers, spend money on tech support, and opt to pay for service warranties when you purchase (another) new computer.

CPQ Presario model F572us. Press power-on, all visible leds come on as well as two leds on mobo, can hear and feel hdd spin-up, fan may run for a second or two then fan shuts down, black screen all the while. Leds will go off, and the power-on cycle just described will repeat automatically.

If I insert a bootable cd, the cd drive will spin-up and remain running until the shutdown and restart as described above.

I tore this laptop down to parts and pieces and found nothing unusal, tried different power supplies.

Tried it with just memory, hdd and monitor attached to VGA port. Same result.

    any thoughts???

I have an Acer Aspire 6920. Yesterday I was bored and wanted to play Sims 2. I installed it and a patch from the Sims website for the game to work with Vista. I played the game for a few minutes, then it froze the computer. I restarted the computer then shut it down. I while later when I started the laptop, it sounds like it's on and loading but the screen is black, nothing, nada. My bluetooth light is on also, that has never come on before. So I can't get in to uninstall the Sims **** and don't know what to do. I popped the battery out and back in, that didn't do it.

Yup. same issue here with my IBM Thinkpad R51. was running fine for these 4 years when a friend loaded just a bit too much soap opera onto the D: partition. Actually, I now have hardly 700 MB free on C: drive and about 600 MB free on the other two partitions (D: & E:). Someone said it is not booting becoz Win XP needs more HDD space free. I also tried booting into safe mode by pressing F1, F2, F3 (one of these works) and by pressing Acees IBM blue key. But it just loaded into safe mode once or twice and then stalled there.
Since last 2 days it doesnt respond to Access IBM key and F1, F2, F3 at all. Just stalls at the black screen. CPU and Power light are on. HDD spins and stops. Win 98 Boot CD also did not get a response.
Will F8 help or shud I get a DOS boot CD and try it?

Well i noticed my internet was being kind of slow so i decided to restart my Dell Inspiron 1420, because for some reason that tends to make the internet work faster. It shut down then tried to start. Basically the blue power light was on, i could hear the fan and hard drive, and the disc tray will pop out and will begin reading a disc, however there is absolutely nothing on the screen at any point. It is completely black. I believe it has something to do with either the monitor or graphics card but thats just pure guessing. some1 plz help.

- I had the exact same problem with a eMachines W340UA and other machines. I'm not sure what this does, but I resolved it by booting into Safe-Mode. Upon successful boot into Safe-Mode (without Networking), I restarted the computer in the normal mode and it for then after worked. Please try this; though I can make no logical statement as to what occurrs or what gets fixed, I have had this method work on several machines.

INSTRUCTIONS:
Fire up the machine, after BIOS postings, continually press the F8 key. From the list of startup options, choose "Safe Mode (Without Networking). It should boot up in this mode.
After the successful boot, restart the machine and allow it to boot in normal mode. If all goes as it has for me, you will successfuly boot into Windows.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
P.S: If anyone knows where the coin battery is on an eMachines w340ua laptop, and hot to get to it, please let me know. Thank you and I hope this helps!

Sincerely;

My dell d610 wont boot up,and screen stays black, but the power lite comes on,and the screen flashes real quick then goes black is there anything i can do?

If your laptop appears to boot up and the hard disk LED flashes, then the problem is probably a back light fault. This can be a faulty inverter or a faulty CCFL lamp. Please click on this link and follow my instructions to identify the fault and possible fix :- http://www.fixya.com/support/r3598095-faulty_laptop_lcd_screen

My FUJITSU SIEMENS AMILO PA 1538 screen comes black ? HELP

Try connecting the laptop to an external monitor and see if all is working Ok with that, if it is, then you may need to get the laptop display serviced - if it does the same on the external display, then try booting the laptop from a CD or DVD such as an OS install CD (Windows or Linux) or a boot utility CD such as Hiren's Boot CD - this will allow you to test whether the problem lays with your installed operating system or with the hardware. . . .
Note: do not go any further than the initial displays if using an OS install CD unless you are using a Linux Live boot CD which will not destroy your installed operating system. . . .See http://www.hirensbootcd.org/ to download a copy of Hiren's Boot CD to burn to a CD. . . .See http://www.ubuntu.com/download/ubuntu/download to download a copy of a Ubuntu (Linux) Live CD.

My PC laptop monitor show yellow lines all over the monitor dnt know whats the real problem. I connect external camera its not working. It show troubleshooting and it says a mass storage controller is not...

Is your laptop booting on switching it on, ie, it is showing hard disk activity and shows initial boot screen. If yes, while switching on press F8 button very frequently. You will get a screen showing the options for booting. Choose a safe mode option and restore your computer to an earlier date. This may solve your problem. On the other hand just switching on the computer shows monitor with yellow and black stripes, you may have to take it to a service center.

My hp g61 will only display a blank/black screen with the cursor after it has finish booting

That cursor is the way in which the BIOS of the laptop is telling you that Windows is completely corrupted and unbootable. You will need to reinstall it so use the recovery cd that came with the laptop.

If the sound you are referring to is a clicking sound, then it is a hard drive failure.
Your computer is trying to boot up the operating system from the hard drive, but when it fails to access the hard drive, it tries to boot up from other devices configured on the BIOS. Apparently, your next choice for booting the operating system is set to the LAN card. Hence, you get the message "PXE-E61 Media test failure", which means that the computer tried to boot up the operating system over the network but it found out that your network cable is not connected to your computer's network interface card.

Black Screen after bios Load

There is nothing positive about this. You can try to load windows in "safe-mode" by holding the f8 key when you start windows. Then you can try to do a system "restore" to a date BEFORE this happened. If that doesn't work you will need to load a new operating system on your laptop. Good Luck

hi
you will need to open your computer and look inside. if you are not sure take to a repair centre, the battery is on the motherboard, thats why you need to take really if you are going to be doing it. But i would advised to get a IT guy to do it for you. once its taken out you need to replace it with a new one.
