I had a frustrating problem, maybe the same.. No sound in or out of the phone, no "Speakerphone" or headset icons showing up on the "dialing" screen. after much frustration, hard and soft resets, etc. it turned out that an annoying and unwanted "voice dial" program had turned itself on and was screwing things up. I had to set it to "Never" use voice dial, now all is back to normal.
This might sound stupid, but have you taken the blue plastic off the screen? i am one of those type of people who leave it on to protect the screen, but it covers the ear piece, so i just cut a square out over the speaker, and left the rest of the plastic on to protect the rest of the screen

Sorry, no solution - just some added info. I have the same problem with a Palm Centro. Changed sim card (O2) but no improvement. Palm eventually replaced Centro, but fault persists. Anyone with similar problems / solutions?
its hardware fault.your speaker is not working.try to disassemble the phone, check the speaker interface if there is a corrossion, clean the interface and assemble your phone again.try to make a call.if still not working replace your speaker.
My phone did this today....i look up answers and saw yours..i later called my phone from my home phone and it seems to be working fine as of now, don't have that popping up every minute...once open you will be able to delete the hot sync application. I didn't delete mine yet, I was going to wait it out and see if it starts again. Hope I helped.
I hate to sound obvious but have you checked the volume setting? Took me a few days to realize they were there - I almost never read the manual. :) The two volume keys are on the left of the phone as you look at the screen. Hope this helps.
