Turns on the second i plug it in

The cpu fan doesnt spin and there is a clicking. I tested the power supply and most things work wonderfully, but the 4 prong coming out of the power supply doesnt light up the 5V.

With power supplies there's no much to suggest but to change it if you suspect yours is not working as it should.

power supplies are most of the time inexpensive so my suggestion is you replace it if something (anything is not working properly)

you need the fans working as they keep not only the power supply itself from running cool but also other components in you tower

fixing a power supply is a. dangerous if you're not trained to fix them and b. possibly more expensive than replacing it.

for you to think about what power supply to get I found this nice rating list on power supply brands online but I forgot the place so the credit is not mine, I hope it helps in your decision on which one you may want to get.

If you are testing the motherboard by removing items plugged into it, remember to leave the CPU Heatsink on if the CPU is still in the socket otherwise the CPU will overheat in seconds or minutes and could be damaged.

If you power on the system, do the fans spin? such as the CPU heatsink fan? If no fans are spinning that are connected to the motherboard, see if the fan is spinning inside the power supply using a flashlight if needed. If not, try a known good power outlet or different plug on your surge bar or a new surge bar.
Even if the power supply fan is spinning, the power supply could be faulty. Borrow or buy one that matches the current wattage written on the side (ie: "output 350W")

Post back here with more info or if anything of this sounds like the issue you are having.

COMPUTER SWITCHES IT'S SELF OFF AND WONT SWITCH BACK ON UNTILL YOU UN PLUG POWER SUPPLY AND RE PLUG POWER SUPPLY BACK IN?

Try new heat sync paste on top of the CPU and clean the areas of dust if any. Mine does the same thing I did this will all of my computers as well as all my clients computers as a preventive measure for overheating. Also it may be your power supply unit as well. So check out those two things and do necessary repair if needed that should solve the issue. It worked for me.

I am not sure if this is a problem with power supply. Yesterday suddenly my machine stopped working. I wasnt using it. It just shut off. Now when I started the cpu, I see one green LED on the mother...

the problem is in your motherboard..this most cause unregulated flow of power from the source electric..but if the green led is off so its the processor.try to test it with a motherboard tester..or get another board that same spec with the you have, and transfer the processsor if it is working

Buzzing noise on boot up, about four buzzes. Monitor stays black, power light on machine stays on, and green, but nothing comes on the screen. Led on motherboard is orange.

The first thing to check would be the CMOS to see if there is a setting for "case intrusion" or something to that effect. Some computers have sensor that goes off the computer's side panel is opened. I believe this can be disabled in the CMOS and/or it's just a wire connected to the motherboard that can be disconnected.

It could also be an important fan, like the CPU fan, isn't spinning fast enough which may or may not lead to an over-heated CPU.

Also check to be sure all the memory sticks are firmly seated.

If it doesn't look like any of those it could always the the power supply. See if you can borrow one for a little while for testing purposes just to see if it works.

If none of those pan out I would say call Dell support and see what they say.

The power supply light on the board comes on but when i hit power button cpu fan comes on for a second and doesnt come on

The first thing I would suspect here is the power supply itself.
Unless you have a power supply tester, thought, it's rather difficult to test it. I usually replace the power supply in situations like this and all is well.

My emachine T1742 desktop will not turn on. When plugged in the power supply's fan turns on, cpu fan doesnt start, both hdd/power led's flicker and pressing power button doesnt power on/off system.

Disconnect all the devices from the computer(tower) including keyboard, mouse, monitor(everything)..even the power cable

Now keep on holding down the power button on the computer tower for 15-30 seconds..

Now release the power button, plug in the power cable, monitor, keyboard, mouse and turn on the computer...

If it works, great!!!

Otherwise, take it for repair..

CPU fan turns for a few seconds and stops, pc will not turn on. Have tried a good PSU, same issue. Removed all connection to motherboard apart from 20 pin, 4 pin power + cpu fan and PW switch: same issue.

1. First of all Remove dust from your CPU fan and try again if issue has been not resolve

2. Second test your SMPS by the help of Green & Red wire. In case fan is turning properly it mines your SMPS is ok

3. Third & last kindly replace your SMPS For the same.

Computer will not start

make sure you remove any static energy from your body before any hardware changes, touch the wall or something to get started. remove the power supply and install it again. also exaclty what fan is turning off after three seconds, is it the CPU fan ????
another thing is that the power supply could be weak to feed the power necessary for all your cards, this is normal, try to test a more potential power supply.
