Turns on the second i plug it in

The cpu fan doesnt spin and there is a clicking. I tested the power supply and most things work wonderfully, but the 4 prong coming out of the power supply doesnt light up the 5V.

With power supplies there's no much to suggest but to change it if you suspect yours is not working as it should.

power supplies are most of the time inexpensive so my suggestion is you replace it if something (anything is not working properly)

you need the fans working as they keep not only the power supply itself from running cool but also other components in you tower

fixing a power supply is a. dangerous if you're not trained to fix them and b. possibly more expensive than replacing it.

for you to think about what power supply to get I found this nice rating list on power supply brands online but I forgot the place so the credit is not mine, I hope it helps in your decision on which one you may want to get.

COMPUTER SWITCHES IT'S SELF OFF AND WONT SWITCH BACK ON UNTILL YOU UN PLUG POWER SUPPLY AND RE PLUG POWER SUPPLY BACK IN?

Try new heat sync paste on top of the CPU and clean the areas of dust if any. Mine does the same thing I did this will all of my computers as well as all my clients computers as a preventive measure for overheating. Also it may be your power supply unit as well. So check out those two things and do necessary repair if needed that should solve the issue. It worked for me.

Hi i have an r630 desktop and it did work but now i have no power to motherboard no fans cpu but i do have power to the hard drives and rom replaced power supply same problem

Maybe your motherboard is toast.

When you plug in the power cord is there any lightswhatsoever on the laptop, where the plug goes in or on the AC Adapter of thepower cord?

When you press the power button do you hear fans running, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lights constantly blinking, hear theDvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer of the DvD/CD turn on for asecond or two? If so the laptop is trying to boot or may have booted, butthe screen is not showing for some reason.

Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with thelaptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issuewhen you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous.

Maybe your power cord is bad if you don't get anything to happen whatsoeverwhen you press the power button. And if that's true maybe you wasoperating off the battery the last time you had it on and since the power cordis bad, it was not charging the battery so the battery is drained and the powercord is bad.

Maybe you have a Static Charge Buildup. Remove the Power Cord, Remove theBattery, then Press and Hold the power button for 30seconds. After 30 seconds plug the power cord back in (leave the batteryout) and hit the power button to see if it boots. If it does, you can putthe battery back in and let it charge.

Buzzing noise on boot up, about four buzzes. Monitor stays black, power light on machine stays on, and green, but nothing comes on the screen. Led on motherboard is orange.

The first thing to check would be the CMOS to see if there is a setting for "case intrusion" or something to that effect. Some computers have sensor that goes off the computer's side panel is opened. I believe this can be disabled in the CMOS and/or it's just a wire connected to the motherboard that can be disconnected.

It could also be an important fan, like the CPU fan, isn't spinning fast enough which may or may not lead to an over-heated CPU.

Also check to be sure all the memory sticks are firmly seated.

If it doesn't look like any of those it could always the the power supply. See if you can borrow one for a little while for testing purposes just to see if it works.

If none of those pan out I would say call Dell support and see what they say.

The power supply light on the board comes on but when i hit power button cpu fan comes on for a second and doesnt come on

The first thing I would suspect here is the power supply itself.
Unless you have a power supply tester, thought, it's rather difficult to test it. I usually replace the power supply in situations like this and all is well.

My emachine T1742 desktop will not turn on. When plugged in the power supply's fan turns on, cpu fan doesnt start, both hdd/power led's flicker and pressing power button doesnt power on/off system.

Disconnect all the devices from the computer(tower) including keyboard, mouse, monitor(everything)..even the power cable

Now keep on holding down the power button on the computer tower for 15-30 seconds..

Now release the power button, plug in the power cable, monitor, keyboard, mouse and turn on the computer...

If it works, great!!!

Otherwise, take it for repair..

CPU fan turns for a few seconds and stops, pc will not turn on. Have tried a good PSU, same issue. Removed all connection to motherboard apart from 20 pin, 4 pin power + cpu fan and PW switch: same issue.

1. First of all Remove dust from your CPU fan and try again if issue has been not resolve

2. Second test your SMPS by the help of Green & Red wire. In case fan is turning properly it mines your SMPS is ok

3. Third & last kindly replace your SMPS For the same.

Power turns off after a few seconds

Open your case, power up and then look at the CPU fan. If it spins normally, you may go to bios set up, look for Hardware Control, go to the fan subject and disable the function of watching CPU temperature or put it at the highest rank. If it does not help, you may think of RAM problem.

Blinking on and off

No offense, Tyson, but would you mind explaining your question a bit better? You wrote "when i out the power cable in it"and that really confuses me. Did you unplug the power cable or did you plug it in?

Also, how long ago did this happen? Was there anything you can think of that may have caused this problem?

If the CPU fan is not rotating, you may have a problem with your power supply.

I am guessing your system is powering on, but not showing anything on the monitor.

Try removing every thing from the computer, starting with the power cable. Then add back only the monitor and turn it back on. If it works, one of the items you left unplugged is causing a problem.

If that does not work, again remove the power cable and open the case. Remove all expansion cards other than video, disconnect all of the drive power and data cables (CD, DVD, hard drive, etc.) then plug in only power and monitor to see if you get anything.

If still no go, unplug power cable, carefully remove the RAM and put it exactly back where it came from. At this point, if you still get nothing you are down to 4 components:
motherboard
power supply
CPU
video card

If the CPU fan is still not spinning, I would suspect it is the motherboard or power supply. Get a can of air and blow out the CPU fan to make sure it rotates easily.

Let me know if you need more help.
