Dc jack repair

we are trying to repair a dc jack for our laptop, but I am wondering if it is worth the hassle because buying a new one is relatively inexpensive. What is there to repair in an old one if the laptop does not power on? I have heard mention of the center pin (data pin) is this the main thing to give out?

On a laptop it must have the exact power volatge and if it has a center pin then you must get it from the manufacture but here is an idea if you can find a place that takes in old computers and laptops maybe you can ask them for a replacement it may take a little time to get it if they don't have one on hand but the way all these new laptops and computers coming out people are getting rid of there old ones..... and most of these places also referbish computers for schools but you need the location for the recycling drop offs,,,

If you have no power and the battery won't charge. There is a short in your DC jack socket. This problem is common among gateway computers. If you can solder, you might want to take the computer apart and put a new power jack in there. New power jacks costs $2. Otherwise, you should look for a new motherboard on ebay and buy it for a little over $100 and put it in yourself. Getting it professionally repaired can be very expensive and not worth it.

Hp Pavillion ze2000 will not power on at all

it is most likely the dc jack. the issue with this is that the jack is directly soldered to the motherboard, so basically you need to purchase a new dc jack, you will find them on eBay for around $5, then take your computer to a qualified technician to have it opened up and the jack replaced. you can also find mail in service center on eBay, if you are not up to the hassle. if this does not solve the problem, them most likely you will need to have the whole board replaced.

DC input jack broken

you need to buy a new jack for replacement. then solder the broken one out of the mainboard and clean the place and solder the new one. or some acer have a separet jack then that one is easy only to change.

My compaq presario will not power up (no power). I have swapped and tried a different power supply. No luck

Could be one of a few things. I'm assuming this is a presario laptop, not a desktop.

System needs to be restarted - Remove the battery and let the laptop sit a while (30 minutes). Reinstall battery and plug in power supply and see if it works. If not,

Remove the Battery and see if it is charged up (there are a set of green lights on most compaq laptop batteries with a spot to push to confirm the battery is charged). If it isn't charged, you very likely have a bad DC Jack connector on the laptop motherboard. If you apply pressure to the cord which plugs into your laptop (up and down, side to side) at the spot where the cord is connected (back of the laptop), see if the power light, on the front of the laptop, comes on for second. If it does, you can fix this by buying the DC Jack for your laptop model on ebay ($10) and removing the old connector and installing, soldering in, the new connector. This will require you to take your laptop apart. (note: Search the internet for the service manual for your laptop and this will give step by step directions on how to do this.)

Also, I think they do this at Best Buy (Nerd Herd) if you aren't comfortable doing ($75)

If it's not the DC Jack, it's a problem with the motherboard / CPU / Power Inverter or something else, most likely not worth your time to fix. You could sell the laptop for parts on ebay to recoup as much of your cost as possible, then buy another.

If you are slightly mechanical and are looking for a project and don't need the laptop immediately, you could buy the individual parts and replace piecemeal, based on directions from the service manual. FYI - I've picked up a few laptops for next to nothing and repaired this way {Compaq Evo n620c (CPU / DC Jack), IBM T22 (LCD Screen), Compaq M700 (DC Jack)}.

Yes this can be repaired, and I believe this to be a good machine and worth it. The cost for a jack repair is approx $100 at most smaller computer shops. Bestbuy, however, will be a heck of alot more expensive. You should have the jack repaired ASAP. A loose or broken jack can cause an electrical arch which can, in turn, cause severe damage to the machine. Damage that may force you to buy a new laptop.

You DO NOT need to replace the motherboard. Laptop jack can be replaced. This place can do it for you, you ship your laptop to them, they replace your jack, then send it back. It costs $99. A lot cheaper than a new motherboard! And so you know, I am not affiliated with them in any way.
