Question about Canon PowerShot SD600 Digital Camera
When the camera is on the LCD screen is black with some light movement when pointed to light. Video & photo taking works except everything is black. The menu works also. Our son had the camera and we don't know what he did to it, maybe dropped it? Is this a problem with the lens? Is it fixable?
If you look really closely at the screen can you see an image? You say you can see if you point the camera at bright light... Sounds like your backlight is either damaged or just unplugged.
If you are comfortable doing the repair, you need to open up the camera and remove the front and back case. Check the small ribbon cable under the LCD, is it damaged or unplugged? Try taking it out and plugging it back in, now does it work?
Keep the camera away from static shock, and only turn the camera on with the front and rear body on, never off.
If you need somebody to do the repair for you, we are an affordable digital camera repair business (Google: darntoothysam) and we can definitely take care of it for you.
