There is one of two things that is wrong with it..

1 the laser lens is dirty and needs to be cleaned witch you can fine a laser lens cleaner at your local radio shack.

2 the laser lens could have been bumped off the track so is that is the case you will have to poen it up and use something soft like a Que tip and gently nudge it.

Tascam CD A500 'No Disc' error message

Hi,

The first thing i would suggest you to do is a hard reset by unpluging the the player for 30min and then try again.

If this does not solve your problem then please see if the player tries to read the disc.
Load a disc and listen.Does the player make squealing noises or is it totally quiet? Squealing noises may indicate that the player is trying to synchronize with the disc but can't due to an obstruction on the lens or in the laser path inside the pickup or a defect in the pickup. This can also be caused by an intermittent signal problem due to a faulty ribbon cable.

Totally silent means that the photo sensor is not getting any usable input from the laser at all, meaning that the pickup is "blind" for lack of a better word.
This can be caused by an obstruction of the beam by foreign matter on the lens or inside the pickup all the way to a marginal or failed laser diode and/or photosensor array. This can also be caused by a bad ribbon cable with one or more severed traces.

You could try to clean the optics. This is the most common malfunction as far as i know in all disc players. It would involve taking the cover off and finding a way to expose the lense, and then cleaning it with a very gentle brush. some players have a cover for the lense that swings to the side during playing, this greatly reduces the chance of dust accumulating, but its still worth the try.

If you actually see dust on the lense, then its just that simple. clean, close, play.

It may also be worth your while to check on the small shafting that guides the carriage of the laser pickup. Dirt, grome, dust and solidified lubricant can cause stoppage of the carriage and the laser eye then fails to read the next track.

If the problem does not get solved then you have to get it repaired.

Goodluck..
Please don't forget to rate the solution.

CD player does not recognise some CDs. When placed in the drawer the deck displays "no disc" if another CD player is used the disc works fine

I have two of these Tascam CD-A500 players, and one more than the other has this problem of not reading some CDs that will play fine in other players. I'm starting to loose faith in this Tascam product. Anyway, seems the consensus is to open it up and check for dirty laser optics. If that doesn't fix the problem, then send it in for repair or scrap it and buy a different brand. I've not had this problem with any other brand CD player, but very suspicious that the same problem happens on BOTH of my Tascam CD-A500 units.

The CD tray won't stay shut - Tascam CD-AD500

First you do is to unplug the cord of your CD unit for 5 hours in order to drain the stored current,the purpose is to reset the unit. After the 5 hours plug the CD see to it if it open If not,just try to press down on the stop button and pressing eject button at same time and it will unlock the tray .Then the other option is to open the cover of the CD unit and unplug the unit again to avoid electricshock . When open already look for the disc platter moved it outward while driving the gear or simply push out. The drawer or door of the CD player and you will see a small circular disc which is often called turntable or disc platter.When the disc platter is out push it back and push it out you do this three times so the slider mechanism align it properly.If you do already what i said then plug it again and if works already closed the cover. The slider mechanism, depending on the age of the unit and the manufacturer, consists of the small chrome rail, a drive motor, a small gear assembly, and (in some units) a small belt that drives the slider unit via the motor. This small belt causes all sorts of problems. If the belt is broken or slipping, it can cause skipping, dropouts, or simply no start up at all. Also, if the belt breaks in the middle of the disc, the drive mechanism gets hair or dirt wrapped up into the gears, or the pick-up assembly doesn?t return to the start position (called home), the unit will (99% of the time) refuse to release the disc, causing it to become stuck inside the unit. There?s a little micro or leaf type switch located at home position that sometimes gets dirty or breaks and, causing this problem also. Hope it may help you; Regards; VOTIT DONT FORGET TO RATE;

I keep getting Disc read errors! when I put a CD-R in my Tascam CC-222. I thought the problem was with the discs so I bought more ... Sony CD-R. Still the same problem. Help

Either the player doesn't except this format which many don't read burnt discs. If it plays factory made discs, than it doesn't except burnt formats. If it doesn't read any discs, than the laser eye may need to be cleaned with rubbing alcohol and cotton swab

Cd player reads disc error

maybe you need to change the optical eye now.
but first try to adjust the variable resistor/trimpot resistor.
try this options to your player.

(TIP)
if using a cd/vcd/dvd products, we only should play a cd/vcd/dvd dics without a bad scratches. the scratches are making the optical eye worn-out easily.

Tascam CD-A500 'no disk' problem

try to listen to sound inside if the any motor is working through the disc tray. then try to open it (if you want though) then observe it.
after that if the motors are ok, try to adjust your optical lens variable risistor.
note if the optical lens is not emitting a red light your optical lens is the problem, changing it is the only solution.

CD stuck in CD-A500 drive

take off the cd tray and take the cover off.
is it for laptop or pc?
if for laptop you'll find the bolt inside the hard drive or at the ddr memory.
be careful, not to damage the optical lens.
