Dear terry your problem seems to be with the lense barrel  probably has the camera fallen on the lense or while the lense was out did someone try to push it in  the lense drive mechanism consist of plastic parts which can take a certain amt of external shock possibily the drive mechanism must have got disturbed so hence you are facing this issue it has to be opened by a qualified engineer who knows his job to sought this out

E18 came up on the LCD screen. The camera will not operate.

E:18 is a standard "lens error" message for Canon cameras. If the lens is stuck at an angle, then sometimes you can SNAP it back towards center and make it work again. If it's not at an angle then you will need to replace the lens assembly. A good refurbished lens install is about $75, so you have to weigh that against buying a new camera for $200 or sending the camera to Canon to fix for $125.

Hope this helps.

After turning on, the lens opens and extends, then it makes a noise like thereis something mechanically sticking. After it stops making noise, there is an e18 on the LCD.

The e18 error is a lens error and it comes out if the lens is stuck. It happens for several reason, but it all boils down on how you store your camera. Sometimes, you might have sand in the lens.

I had the same problem before but it was because of the trapped moisture in the lens. If you constantly go out in the sun, it is best to have put your camera inside a bag. Also, dont sun bathe and go inside an airconditioned room too fast.

Broken lens : error

The lens unit will have to be replaced. This is a factory level service. It will most likely be more feasible to replace the camera!

Lens cover won't open when Canon Powershot A520 Camera turned on

I have two Canon Power shots---the A610, and the A630. The lens cover is starting to hang on my 630 when the lens retracts.

If the lens is extended, take your fingertip and try to move the cover a bit to see if it springs open. If not, then the mechanism within the lens needs to be replaced.

Canon makes a great camera, and I would tell you to try to have it fixed if it costs less than 75 dollars. At 75-100 dollars it's a toss-up. More than a 100 dollars---it's your call.

Attaching my Canon Rebel XS to my Baush & Lomb telescope

You need an adapter ring that adapts the camera's lens mount to the telescope eyepiece. Most telescopes use the same size eyepiece, but you should ask the vendor before purchasing to make sure the ring will fit your particular telescope.

First off, see if Canon can help you. If not, the following blog outlines some repair options for a lens error. They won't work for all cases, but they're worth a try: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

Frozen lens and shutter

Press the power button on and hold it down while extending and twisting the telescopic zoom lens. It might fix your problem. In any case it could not make it worse Good luck!
