TASCAM MIXER ISSUES

I receive a "System Error Code 4" when I turn the mixer back on and can no longer access the menu (or anything else).

The second problem - immediately before I received the above error code for the first time, I had been mixing down tracks because I had received a "No Free Disk" error, which had never happened in two years of using the equipment. I followed the manual instructions to copy the tracks and move them into another partition, but it seems as if the tracks just disappeared. I don't know if these two problems are interrelated...now I figure that even if I can advance past the System Error Code, my songs are gone for good.

How big of a hard drive do you have? Ie: 3.5 inch hard drive. You may be able to erase it if you put it in a laptop or desktop.

Try first unplugging the system for ten or twenty minutes to reset the eeproms, see if you get the same problems when you plug it back.

    Generally you get "System Error Code 4" when the hard disk partition is full, and there is no more space for other files, if the system still starts , try deleting obsolete files, if the disk is full it wont even allow you to transfer files to disk, returning "No Free Disk" error.

    Try making some space on the disk, if you are not able to delete files anymore because the system does not even starts, then the hard disk must be removed and connected to a PC to erase files.

    If you do not care about files stored on the hard disk , then you can re-intialize the system, this will format the hard drive, erasing all files (you lose everything and system goes back to factory settings).

    Here is the procedure to re-initialise the hard drive:

    1. While unit is off, hold down Track Edit and Shut Down buttons at same time,
    2. While holding the buttons down, turn on DP01-FX
    3. It will ask you "Are you sure?"
    4. Press enter, you will lose everything on the recorder
    5. Go through re-initialization following procedure.

No sound from mxl 990 condenser mic


From the Micropower PS400 product description it states:

"routes the microphone signal to a mixer or a microphone preamplifier."

• these is just a phantom power supply.


One reason your former setup is OK , is that

tascam m-50 is a mixer preamplifier.

• phantom power supply is just a part of the mic preamp of the mixer

to power up your mxl 990 condenser mic

I just want to use my old tascam 414 as a mixer so i can run 2 pianos and my computer through my 2 monitors - need help in hooking everything up


I would connect the 2 pianos to 1-2 and 3-4 (assuming you want to use the stereo outputs on the pianos.)
The computer I would connect to the stereo input named 5-6. You will need a 1/4" stereo jack here. Just like the one you find on old headphones.
You could also have the pianos in mono, and use channels 1 and 2, and then connect the computer to 3-4.
Connect your monitor speakers to L-R out.

Your computer goes where it says "effects" on the diagram.

Microphone not working


hello there, Many steps to do

1. For your AirLine system to work correctly, both the receiver and transmitter must be set to the same channel. and check to make sure that the supplied receiver and transmitter are set to the same channel.

2. Physically place the receiver where it will be used (the general rule of thumb is to maintain "line of sight" between the receiver and transmitter
so that the person using or wearing the transmitter can see the receiver). The CR77 can be rack-mounted if desired (taking a half-rack
space), using an optional Samson adapter kit. The UM1 can be mounted to a video camera using the supplied velcro.

3. Extend the receiver antenna(s) and place it (them) in a vertical position. Make sure the Power on-off switch in your AH1 transmitter is set
to "Off."

4. Gently pry off the battery cover off the AH1 transmitter and slide it upwards and off to open the battery compartment. Please use care
when opening this cover as undue force will destroy the hinge.

5. Place a fresh AAA alkaline battery in the transmitter battery compartment, taking care to observe the polarity markings. Then replace the
battery cover and gently press down on it until it clicks. Leave the AH1 off for the moment.

6. Make the physical cable connection between the receiver output jack and a mic level audio input of your amplifier or mixer. The balanced
XLR jack is preferable, since it will deliver an electromagnetically cleaner signal. If required, both the balanced and unbalanced outputs
can be used simultaneously. If your system contains a CR77 or UM1 receiver, be sure to set its Audio Output Level switch correctly (see
pages 7 and 9 for details). Leave your amplifier (and/or mixer) off at this time.

7. Turn the Volume, Level or AF Level knob on the receiver completely counterclockwise. Connect the supplied AC adapter to the CR77
receiver and plug it in (the UM1 receiver can also operate off battery power or a 12 volt power supply from a connected video camera), then
plug the adapter into any standard AC outlet. Slide the Power switch in the direction of the arrow to turn on the receiver. If your system
contains a CR77 receiver, its "Power" LED will light steadily red. (Note: The UM1 receiver has no "Power" LED indicator.)

8. Turn on the power to your AH1 transmitter (using its Power on-off switch); the "Power/Battery" LED will flash if the battery is sufficiently
strong (if it lights steadily, the battery has less than 2 hours of power remaining and should be replaced). If your system contains either a
CR77 or UM1 receiver, one of the "A/B Receiver" LEDs will light, showing you whether the (left) "A" or (right) "B" receiver is currently being
used. The CR77 / UM1 meter will also indicate the strength of the incoming RF signal.

9. Now it's time to set the audio levels. Turn on your connected amplifier and/or mixer but keep its volume all the way down. Make sure
that the AH1 transmitter is unmuted (its Mute switch should be positioned away from the arrrow). Then set the Volume, Level or AF Level
knob on the receiver fully clockwise; this is unity gain.

10. Speak or sing into your headset mic (or play the instrument to which the horn mic is attached) at a normal performance level while
slowly raising the volume of your amplifier and/or mixer until the desired level is reached. The UM1 receiver allows you to monitor the
transmission signal using standard Walkman-type 30 ohm headphones connected to its headphone jack.

11. If you hear distortion at the desired volume level, first check to see whether the "Peak" LED on the receiver is lit . If it is not lit, make sure
that the gain structure of your audio system is correctly set (consult the owners manual of your mixer and/or amplifier for details). If the
"Peak" LED is lit, simply move the microphone further from your mouth.

12. Conversely, if you hear a weak, noisy signal at the desired volume level, again make sure that the gain structure of your audio system
is correctly set (consult the owners manual of your mixer and/or amplifier for details) and that the Volume, Level or AF Level control of the
receiver is fully clockwise. If it is and the signal coming from the receiver is still weak and/or noisy, simply position the microphone closer to
your mouth.

13. Temporarily turn down the level of your mixer/amplifier system and turn off the power to your transmitter, leaving the receiver on. Then
restore the previously set level of your mixer/amplifier. With the transmitter off, the receiver output should be totally silent-if it is, skip
ahead to the next step. If it isn't (that is, if you hear some noise), you may need to adjust the receiver Squelch control. When the Squelch
control is at its minimum setting, the AirLine system always provides maximum range without dropout; however, depending upon the particular
environment your system is used in, you may need to reduce that range somewhat in order to eliminate band noise when the AH1transmitter is turned off. To do so, use the provided screwdriver to rotate the Squelch control completely counterclockwise (to the "Min"
position), then slowly turn it clockwise until the noise disappears. If no noise is present at any position, leave it at its fully counterclockwise
"Min" position (so as to have the greatest overall range available).

I have a DP2 Tascam 8 track recorder. Can I come out of my 16 channel mixer into my recorder and record my whole band?


The Tascam DP-02 can only record two tracks at a time.

You will have to mix "on-the-fly" and record the master out, or record each instrument seperately, and just record the drums as a stereo mix.

How do i hook up my tascam 414 portastudio to my PC??


Assuming you want to keep your recordings at the highest possible quality, wouldn't it also work if you had an outboard component CD recorder? That way you retain the highest resolution at the first analog-digital step and once it's on CD you can rip to your heart's content or run it through the mixer again.

I have a Pioneer Elite PDR-509 that I have used for years. There are several 'professional' decks made by Tascam, Marantz, HHB and others that add the ability to use vanilla CDR's and CDR/W's instead of CDR-Audio and CDR-A-R/W media as mine uses and some can defeat the SCMS codes so you can do digital-digital multiple generation copies. Home audio CD Recorders will only digitally copy a first-generation digital original, unless the source was was made on a PC. Then it's always considered first-generation. The cost of the media isn't that much different these days. A standalone CD Recorder would also let you digitize those LP's and tapes you have hanging around or record Live through your mixer to CD. How about that!!!

There are plenty of them on eBay cheap and I'm still looking for the right one in case mine should ever decide to die. I see 7 pro models right now on eBay. I'd look for one that has Coaxial Digital inputs and outputs as well as Optical ones.

As for hooking up your Tascam, that would depend a lot on what sound processing software and soundcard you have - not my strong suit as I still do everything in the analog domain prior to cutting the CD and then ripping it to MP3 for portability and fast access. The physical hookup would be Line Out to Line In. After that it's all software.

Sennheiser em100 g2 receiver passes major static to mixer


This is a well known problem with the EW100 series that is easily solved.
You will need to run this reciever into a line input via a mono(TS) jack to jack lead. this will bypass the phantom power.
Make sure that you set the AV OUT to +18 in the reciever menu to get optimum level.
Phantom power is only present in the microphone inputs XLR3.

Using the dp-01 as a interface mixer


If you're asking about being able to use the DP-01s knobs and sliders to control the virtual knobs and sliders on some PC recording software the answer would be 'no'.

But if you just want to use the DP-01 to act as a mixer for incoming signals (like microphones and or guitars or other instruments) the answer is 'kind of'. The DP-01 cannot act as a usb interface for your PC, but it can sit in front of a usb interface or sound card and act as a mixer of sorts to mix input from instruments through the monitor outs and then into your computers sound cards or usb interfaces audio-in jacks. You are however limited to two simultaneous inputs though as that is all the DP-01 can handle.

Lot of possibilities.

The DP-01 is like a mixer with built-in recording capabilies. You could plug your tunrntables into your DP-01 inputs, assign the inputs to tracks(channels) on the DP-01, and then output those tracks to two channels on your mixer (which would be connected to your PA.

Alternatively, you could plug the outs from your mixer into the DP-01 either by routing individual channels from the mixer into the DP-01 inputs, or outputting the mix into a single track (or into two tracks in stereo on your DP-01). Just assign the DP-01 inputs as usual to the tracks you want to record onto.

Those are just a couple of basic ideas. You could also route a DP-01 track (or the whole mix) back out the DP-01 send loop and through some external processors and then back to tracks on your DP-01, or you could do this through the mixer and then record the final result on the DP-01.

I'm guessing that you're asking whether the mixer needs phantom power to the mics in which case the answer is that you wouldn't need power there if the mic preamp is providing it already. You'd just plug the mixer's main 1/4" outputs into the DP-01s 1/4" inputs. The 1/4" inputs on the DP-01 are not powered anyway, only the XLR jacks can be powered by turning the phantom power switch on.

I need more tracks!


Your preamp needs to have 1/4" output jacks which channel all of the mic inputs into these two outs. This isn't typically how a mic preamp is set up however. They often will have 2 ADAT outs which output all the inputs in stereo or some other configuration. You may have one that can do this, but if not you'll probably end up needing some kind of basic external mixer which can handle all of the individual outs from your preamp through the mixer's inputs and then you'd run the main outputs from your mixer into the two inputs on your Tascam DP-01.
