First, it is not a remote control problem or battery problem.
When I turned on my tv today, the volume was at 100; the remote control and the front panel volume control would not turn it down. No keys on the remote or on the front panel work. When I did try to turn it down with the front panel control, the channels started changing; it was not receiving any signal broadcast, video, or sat-tv. I turned the tv on/off by use of the circuit breaker i have it plugged into; even with that, the controls did not work at all. Finally, I did point the remote at the tv and it did power down; but now it will not come on at all. The only indication I get is when I cut the power to the tv from the power strip, the red light on the front of the tv near the power switch shines for a half second and then dims out. None of the remotes I have affect the tv; the sat-tv remote does not turn it on/off either. Can anyone help me out here?

don`t know if this will work for yours but I have heard of menu coming up all by itself randomly and the fix was to remove the batteries from the cable boxes remote and the tv`s remote, partially stuck on buttons were the cause, replaced the remote end of problem, hope this helps on yours.
I had the same problem, you'll probably find that that particular button will push further into the set then the others, this is due to the a weakening of a cheesy metal guide which directs the projection off the back of the button into the corresponding microswitch. This metal guide will bend and will push against the switch. My solution, (and it ain't pretty) was to unplug the set, remove the button( I used a dremel cutting bit), locate the guide,a small metal plate with a hole in it. Bend the plate toward the front of the set then tape over the hole. I haven't had the problem since. You WILL have to use your remote for further functionality of the volume, However all of the buttons seem to be inherantly poorly designed and will weaken over time, AVOID USING THEM!
toshiba 35a44 I had in shop would not turn on initially, when Qa01 was replaced I was able to turn tv on, but after a couple of minutes volume went all the way down, vol display bar on screen and power and menu keys would not work, remote control function did not mater. after replacement of QA02 mpu no results. desoldered volume down and up keys and sprayed chassis with flux remover on both sides of chassis and sumerged vol keys in alcohol solutions for 10 minutes, restored them in chassis and the problem was corrected. QA01 and QA02 did not had to be replaced there was a contaminant problem on solder flux that was causing the problem.
