SOURCE: singer solid state-bobbin part

Check your tension disks, with your presser foot up, and the tension dial on zero. Sometimes a piece of cotton breaks off between the tension disks and then prevents the disks to work properly. Also make sure when you thread the machine, the thread does go through the disks and over the take up lever. After you threaded the machine, before putting the thread through the eye of the needle, lower the presser foot and while pulling on the thread with your left hand, increase the tension with your right hand. Do it slowly and you should feel in difference in tension. If this is the case, your machine should work fine. Also use a ball-point needle on t shirt material. Good luck!

SOURCE: How do you adjust the bobbin tension on a Singer

With your slide plate open, you will see 2 screws on the bobbin case. You need to adjust the one on the inside (not the one that sits at the edge of the metal strip). Do so very slightly. If you can't seem to get it adjusted, take a look and make sure there isn't any thread or lint in between the two pieces of metal that the thread feeds through. This can cause a loose tension.

Needle stuck in right position

Try directing heat from a handheld hair dryer into the internal mechanics where you applied oil. If the old oil has solidified, it is probably preventing the parts from moving freely. Be sure to always use Fresh, good quality sewing machine oil (NO 3-in-1, WD-40, cooking oil, or old stinky oil from grandma's sewing basket). Also apply only 1-2 drops each spot. Frequent oiling should be around every 40 hours of sewing time, or at least every 3 months.

Here's a manual if you need one (oiling instructions on pg 74):

My sewing machine singer 7256 giving me a problem causing my fabric underside stitches bird nesting and suddenly the bobbin case comes out from its place and thread strangles and stuck, Why?

try changing the needle-- Correct needle insertion is mandatory for proper use of your sewing machine.
Raise the needle bar to the highest point, then loosen the needle clamp screw to remove the old needle.
Place the new needle in the needle clamp with the flat side of the needle facing the back, (round needle, the groove in the needle should face away from the shaft).
Push the needle all the way up as far as it will go. Then tighten the needle clamp screw.
rethread the machine top & bobbin
make sure the thread has not come off the thread take up lever
also check the top thread tension
do you have a manual?

Is your buttonhole lever down by accident? If, that isn't it, it could be your timing is off. One other thing to try, is your needle all the way up in the shaft? I hope that it is something simple, call Singer at 1-800-4singer and maybe they will have quick fix because the timing is not a do it yourself job.

I sewed a few days ago, put my singer machine away and today when I was ready to sew, it will sew backward, but the needle won't go down into the bobbin to sew forward.

Try the old hair dryer trick, take off the cover, pay attention where the screws go, put some gloves on, then work the reverse lever, button or whatever you have on your machine and your stitch length dial. It may have old grease or oil that needs to soften. Now put your machine back together. Clean and Oil your machine as per your manual. Try rethreading and a new needle before you sew. If you don't have your manual, go to and under customer support and download one for free. Good luck. I hope that I have helped you, my advice is free.

Motor spins, but doesn't sew

Oh, mine did that a while. Then, I dropped a needle in it. I turned it upside down and shook. The one I dropped came out, along with another rusty one. I tried it, the needle worked again, but it didn't sew. Now it works, but again, doesn't sew. Try turning it up-sde down with the place where you put in the bottom thread and the other pannel exposed. My model id very, very old. It's an ELNA Transforma.

Needle jams and breaks off

Needle jams....Thread is caught in the hook...solution...Remove the upper thread and bobbin case, turn the handwheel backwards and forwards by hand and remove the thread remands.

Needles breaks
1. Needles is damaged..Insert new needle
2. The needle is not correctly inserted....insert flat side towards the back
3. Wrong needle size for the fabric...Choose a needle to suit the thread and fabric.
