HP 7310 all in one printer

There is a wire spring(?) where the 96 cartridge should go. The spring looks fine, but the plastic piece that the spring goes onto is broken. What can I do?

I have the same problem with the plastic holding the spring having broke off apparently when I put in a new cartridge. I used masking tape to hold the spring in position but I can't get the error message to go away no matter how many times I take out the 96 print cartridge and reinsert it. When I contacted HP, they could not help me. The printer worked fine until I had to put in a new color print cartridge. The All-in-one is useless now. I can't even send a fax.

Yeah I have the same problem only with the black cartridge. Now i don't know what to do. Do you have any suggestions?

I have the same problem. I have found no solution. I ended up going to a used printer dealer and purchased a used 7410 model. Waiting to find a replacement cartridge assembly.

If the issue is with the carriage chute your printer has an extended warranty and will be replaced by hp (at no cost) if you call in. If they act like they don't know this tell them there was a recall on all printers with certain serial numbers.

Locate the serial number on the printer. If the third and fourth digit of the serial number is 55, 56, 57, 58, 59, 5A, 5B, 5C, 61, 62, 62, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, 69, or 6A, you will receive a replacement unit and free Extended Support and Service Warranty.
Please read this document and look at the photos in Step 1.

If not then this is not a user replaceable product and you are looking at paying to have it serviced by hp or replacing the unit altogether.

X-spring tab broken in ink receptacle (HP officejet 7310)

I think you right. There are a lot of small parts which are finely tuned in a printer and most likely something else is still affected.
You probably are better off purchasing a new unit, unless you have the time and patient to figure it out.
Good Luck!

Ink cart error

Is there a metal wire (clip) hooked on black plastic in the ink carriage? If not, these are notorious for breaking the small plastic hook....when broken, the cartridge is not held in proper postion so printer won't recognize that the ink cartridge is installed......no replacement parts are available for this series of printers.

I changed my color cartridge #97 on my HP officejet 7310

Remove the color cartridge. Make sure the contacts in the print carriage are clean. Chek to ensure the contacts on the cartridge are clean. Reinsert cartridge.

The ink cartridge I replaced in my printer is not working.

I have one of these printers (7210-7310) with this same problem and this is what is wrong with it. There is a small wire spring that holds the ink cartridge in place in each cartridge holder. Remove the color cartridge and inspect the ribbon cable (it gray) inside the ink cartridge holder. There is a big problem with these HP printers where the spring pokes a hole the ribbon cable breaking one of the wires and rendering the printer useless. Poor design by HP, sorry.

The printer doesn't recognize the new original HP color cartridge

There is a small spring that holds the ink cartridge in the ink holder. You will see it stick out from the right hand side of the ink holder where the ink cartridge slides in. If that spring isn't being held to the ink holder by two plastic tabs, (I.E. the plastic tabs are broken) the printer will never recognize the cartridge. If the printer is still under warranty I would contact HP or an authorized repair center for HP. Both the black and color ink holder has this spring. I know of no way to repair this kind of breakage.

Carriage Jam

I tried all these steps and it still did not work was ready to throw the printer out from frustration. Instead I traced what I did when I had the jam. I believe if the factory can fix it so can I. My printer is now working and it was so simple yet HP does not tell you how to fix it.

Hp office jet 7310 all in one printer problem

When you install your printer, did you install the driver first ??? If not, unplugged the USB cable from the printer and uninstall the printer of your computer and restart your PC.

Re-install the driver first and connect your USB cable when the software prompt you to do so....

Let me know !
