Yes I'm sure it is. If you want to , you can just get the tech you hire to charge it to just braze up the line. It doesn't take long to do this. The system will need to be evacuated to pull the air back out of the system. Hope this helps, have a good day.

Sounds like the system is either over charged with freon or under sized. Call the same people back out ask for a supervisor to come out and check out the system any other company will charge you.

When do you know to add coolent to a central cooling unit

You dont add coolant to centrl air systems. They have to be charged with the appropriate refrigerant by an EPA certified technician. If the unit seems to not be cooling sufficiently that would be your sign to call someone. this is generally an item checked on an annually cooling heating inspection and tune up. Unless the unit is very old or leaking refrigerant somewhere there really shouldn't be an issue since it is a closed system. Be sure you need a recharge before asking for one, it is not cheap by any means, depending on the type of refrigerant it can run you anywhere from 25-55 dollars per pound and the typical system takes 6-10 pounds to charge fully.

Window air cond unit, several years old, doesn't blow as cold

The problem with window units and any service tech will tell you it cost more to repair than you can buy at Walmart or home depot. Unless you know someone who can charge it for you. Window units are a sore subject. A 200 dollar window unit might cost 200 dollars to charge system. SORRy rusty

Not cool enough, compared to new one

There is no nozzle to charge a window air conditioner. They are shipped from the factory as a hermetically sealed system. Befor getting into the sealed system there are some check points to do first. Check and make sure you have an even air flow across the condenser. That is the outside part of the unit. If you cant feel much air flow the condenser may need to be cleaned. The sealed system should not be worked on by someone who is not citified for that type of work.
