Re: how to set my compaq presario F500 back to factory...
If you have a hidden partition on your harddrive you may have to access it during a reboot through one of your F keys, it varies on different brands. Or you may have to wipe your hard drive clean and reload windows and all of your device drivers from the Compaq website.

Power down your Compaq Presario F500 notebook computer. Remove the unit's internal battery from its housing compartment. Use a screwdriver to unscrew and remove all of the screws from the
bottom panel of your Compaq Presario F500. Use your hands to lift off
the bottom panel, revealing the inside of the notebook computer. Look for the CMOS/BIOS chip: It will be located in the center of your
computer's motherboard, which is itself located in the center of the
case. Remove the small battery from its housing compartment on the CMOS/BIOS
chip. Then, press and hold the "Power" button on the laptop's case for a
few seconds. This will completely discharge all electricity from the
device. Replace the CMOS/BIOS' battery. Place the bottom panel of the notebook
computer back on and screw it back into place. Place the Compaq Presario
F500's battery back into its housing compartment and press the "Power"
button to turn it on. Your CMOS/BIOS will now be completely reset. Good luck and please let me know how you get on!!!!

Under HP Recovery Manager, select the option to perform a system recovery.
***Note*** Doing this will delete everything that are save in your computer. Back up your files before doing this.
hi. there are two ways to completely restore settings of a computer: 1- enter Bios of your notebook (by pressing "delete" repeatedly") and select restore to manufacturer's settings.(or load from manufacture settings). THIS CAN RESTORE SETTINGS OF YOUR HARDWARE.
2- for restoring settings of Windows: restart your notebook and before windows starts up (showing "windows starting") press F8 repeatedly. then choose "load from last good configuration".
If you have the original recovery disc for the laptop, then I would re-install your operational system to bring it back to factory setting. If you do not have the disc go to www.compaq.com for customer support to see if they have the disc available.
Hi. I think the problem on this one is with your operating system, try scanning your computer with your anti virus software and restart your computer. Also you should uncheck some softwares that is on your starup programs so that it would not load every software on your computer everytime your computer startsup. If this trouble shooting step doesnt work you can use your recovery cd to restore your system back to its original settings, just like the first time you got it, but you have to backup every important files that you have on your computer to an external storage device, because when you perform a recovery it will delete everything on your computer to restore it on the original factory settings. I would also suggest that you call HP tech support dept for further assistance in case you need it. Hope this helps
I'll ask you not to go for the Factory settings as it worths lots of time
There are two ways to format anything 1. Restore Factory Settings 2. Format on your own.
i Prefer format on your own is more better than factory settings..
