Problem with paper feed

I have a problem with my printer, will be glad if you could help. When I try to print, the printer tries to pick paper from the feeder tray but the paper crinkles up and the screen says to load paper. I try to put in fresh clean paper and the same thing happens over and over again. Could you please help. Thanks for your help

I have the same problem. There is paper caught where it is completely inaccessible at the bottom of the paper feed, apparently wrapped around something. I've taken the screws out of the back but can't manage to get the thing disassembled to pull the paper out. If I find a solution, I'll post it here.

Hmm, no plastic pieces in my case. There is a full sheet of paper wrapped around a spindle in the very back, bottom section of the printer. There is no way to open it up that I can find so I have no way to remove the paper. Considering the cost of repair (out of warranty) and the time it would take to get it repaired, I simply went out and bought another printer -- this time something more sturdy --a Canon MX-850 which has the same basic feature set but also does double sided copying and printing and is networkable. The front panel is virtually identical in layout to the Lexmark 5470 so it was an easy transition.

I had the same problem. Solution - with the printer disconnected turn it upside down and shake it. A piece of plastic from nowhere fell out and printer has been fine ever since.

Check the paper pickup path. there is something or a paper stuck in the path.
you need to physically look and figure out the paper path. from pickup to feed out.

Use a water dampened cloth to clean the pickup roller. They get residue on them over time that causes them to not grip the surface of the paper when feeding.

Printer will not pick paper

As a test, please try to print something using paper in the manual feed bin.

If that works, remove the tray, take all the paper out, verify the springs on the tray are working again then reinsert the paper and tray and try again.

Thank you.

Can you tell if the feed rollers are turning? Depending on what type of printer it is, you feed rollers could be worn and not picking up the paper.

Paper doesn't advance through the printer

Hi, Sounds very much like the feed rollers are worn out. If you can get to them without too much trouble you can clean them up with regular rubbing alcohol and a rag which will help the paper feed. You might also want to try unpluging the printer and trying to roll the paper feed buttons by hand and seeing if a piece of paper will feed through without catching anywhere. If it does catch somewhere, then you may very well have a small piece of paper jammed in the paper path causing the jam. Good luck.

Paper not feeding

Is this a top feed - that is paper loaded on top at the back bottom feed from a tray underneath? Top feed take one sheet of paper and gently push it down whilst the printer is trying to grab it. Tray feed - take tray out make sure no paper fragments are in the tracks and find a nail board and gently abrade the pick up rollers.

Paper feed or pick up problems

The rubber paper rollers on your printer that picks-up paper may have wiered out. So try replacing them. This may occur when the rubber rollers get dirty also. In that case just cleaning them with a wet cloth will do the solution (no water drop should fall on the printer assembly).
