Radio Shack Universal Remote 15-2146 Closed Captioning Issue

Please help me. For the love of god. I can't get the closed captions off my tv. The problem started when I got the remote over a year ago. I am at my absolute breaking point.

The problem started when I got the remote. I originally had a cable hookup and noticed that I could click the captions off with the 'exit' button on the universal remote on TV setting. However, it is only short term, for the captions come back automatically as soon as something else is said on the television. I could do no such thing with the cable remote, leading me to believe it was an issue with the TV and not cable. I've gone through the settings on the television and can't find any closed caption related options. I also have scanned the manual for the 15-2146 and there is no mention of anything having to do with closed captions also. I tried calling Radio Shack's 1-800 number but that didn't work either. I just really need to get the captions off. It's driving me insane.

I would make sure that you have the correct model code for the universal remote. I've actually had the same problem because I used the wrong model code. If it's correct, start over. disconnect everything, (will reset all options) and that should solve it.
hope i helped.

Need Closed Captioning

If you have the original remote control, there will be a button marked "CC", and pressing it once, the closed caption funciton will turn OFF, and for an other press, it will re-appear. Now, here you are using a universal remote control. So it will be difficult to make closed caption. Try to enter its function menu by using present remote control, where you can make this funicion OFF, if you could enter into it.

I can't turn the closed captioning OFF on my insgnia flat screen tv model NS-L CD37. i have a universal rca remote & the closed captioning won't go away - HELP !

The problem is that the universal remote is not sending the correct IR signal to your units IR receiver, regaurdless whether or not you turned the captions on with the universal, it is unable to send the signal to turn them off, if you have a menu button on your unit you could try accessing the closed caption option that way, alternatively you can do a system reset, if you can access that menu option, you may need to do a tv retune to get your stations, but the closed captioning should be off. I hope this helps. Good luck.

I am trying to turn on my closed captioning on my 19'' orion tv but dont see it... how do i turn it on

Usually you can turn on the closed captioning from the remote. There (should) be a button labeled "cc" that you just need to press once or twice until you get the closed captioning style you want. If your remote doesn't have this button, or if you don't have a remote, you could try two things. First, you could try (i'm not sure if this would work) going into the tv menu itself and searching for the closed captioning part, or you could just go out and buy a universal remote that has the "cc" key. I hope this helps! Sincerely, Der Strom

I have a panasonic TV. direct tv remote for a . while programming the timer, somehow closed captioning got turned on & i after hours of trying to get it turned off, NO LUCK. it's driving me insane!!...

I could do better with a picture of the remote. Closed captioning is usually a multi-press button, that is each press takes you through each of the four types of closed captioning and then off.
You can enable closed captioning on a DVD Recorder, it looks like the TV, but its only on the picture from the DVD Recorder.
If you have a PVR, you could have closed captioning on on that device.
Try tuning off everything else to make sure it IS the TV.
Turn on the menu and find the closed captioning settings and set to OFF.
Press the close captioning button on the remote (If there is one) and press CC repeatedly until it says OFF.
Try and control close captioning, timer and menus with the ORIGINAL remote and not a programmable one.
Programmable remotes are not always completely compatible.

How to activate "closed captioning" for a Proscan Full HD 1080P

Comcast's remote has nothing to do with closed captioning. It's on your tv remote. First, the tv has to be capable of handling closed captioning, and your's is- and second, the program must have closed captioning provided- current programs do, some older shows do not support closed captioning. Recheck your remote, and if necessary- look at the setup instructions that came with the TV- they should also be posted online at the Proscan support site.

Closed captioning is activated. HOw do I cancel it WITHOUT remote

Unfortunately, many sets these days do not allow you to access the closed captioning options without a remote. The good news is that universal remotes do and they are relatively cheap. When you look for a universal remote, be sure that it has a menu button on it. Expect to pay between $5-$7 for one.
