Question about Hoover Dryers

1 Answer

My Hoover TC650 condensor dryer has a fault. When turned on it makes a noise (buzz) but the drum does not revolve. If I turn it by hand and then quickly close the door and press the button it will continue to work OK. One opinion is that the capacitor needs changing. Where is this? How do I get at it?

I saw your question and never worked on a hoover dryer so i checked it out go here to see video
https://www.how-to-repair.com/help/hoover-candy-tumble-dryer-drum-not-turning-and-belt-ok-faulty-capacitor/
i have to tell you on all the dryers i've ever worked on they never had a cap in them, only washers,on a dryer that isn't a condenser dryer if you get the dreaded buzzing sound and start it like you did, open the door, hold in the door switch and spin the drum with your other hand while someone else pushes in the start button and it would start it would be the motor,i've seen a condenser dryer and the problem always was with the filter, people that had just bought one didn't know you had to clean out the filter box, never took one apart,i saw that nobody answered you so i hope this video helps you out and i learned that condenser dryers have a cap in them.

SOURCE: Dryer drum will not turn

Try pushing start button while turing drum clock wise and see if drum will start spinning, sounds like bad start winding or relay

Hoover HDV 7 FM tumble drier. The drum is not turning (its making a loud buzzing noise like its trying to get going) and the filter light is on, although that is free from fluff. Is it time for a new drier...

sumanth m 's answer may well be correct because I have the same dryer and it has the same problem. I got a massive electric shock off mine and so I think the buzzing is a protection measure against a short circuit

My dryer will not work at all, it just makes a buzzing noise

If the sound is more of a hum than a buzz something has the motor in a bind or the motor has gone bad. Make sure you can turn the drum by hand and if you can not then check for something in the blower wheel.

My hoover HDC 75 will has the filter light on

the only other filter is the condensor but that wont stop it from turning if there is a humming noise when its ment to be turning its sounds like motor,or capictor or the drum has jammed.

Dryer heats up but drum doesn't turn.

If the drum is very stiff to turn could be the drum bearings shot which would account for the broken belt, replace belt and it liable to break shortly after again. hover are known for there bad bearings and they cost a small fortune.

check it out have a look and see if there is nothing jaming the drum inside, i am certain your belt has gone and maybe down to the stiff drum making belt break, replace belt but bare in mind it may break again if the drum is too stiff.

choice is yours really. bearing kits cost more than 50 quid in general

When turning the knob to start dryer, buzzing sounds but drum doesn't start to turn unless you gently push atart the inside drum

The problem is either a faulty start winding in the motor, or the circuit which energizes the start winding is failing.

A dryer motor has two windings: start & run. The start winding gets it going and a centrifugal switch disconnects the start winding when the motor gets up to speed.

Check the dryer start switch -- then the motor connections and the centrifugal switch inside the motor.
